I built this system a year and a half ago and it has served me well.

Motherboard: ASUS M4A79 DELUXE 790FX
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 940
Video: Radeon HD 4870
Memory: 4 GB Corsair (don't recall the model line at all)
Storage: 2x WD Caviar Black 160gb in RAID 0 running OS and other common use applications
Single 1 TB Caviar Black drive for media and video game storage in addition to a backup of the important bits on the main Array.
Power Supply: Antec 850W
Case: Antec Nine Hundred

Total price for the above plus a 23" monitor including shipping was less than 1100 USD.

Im developing a box that I will be likely building in the next couple of months.
