So, I've been playing guitar for about 5 years now, and after buying a good few guitars, I've decided I'd like to take a shot at building my own - the big problem being I have no idea what's the best way around it. They sell guitar kits online, which have all the wood already cut out, but is it better to buy one of them or is it better to build one from scratch entirely? If it helps any, it would be a Les Paul shaped guitar.

Any help would be much appreciated :D

I'd build from scratch personally. Greater choice of components and you can make the thing any damn shape you want, use any material you want, let your imagination run wild. Making a Les Paul type guitar, if you ask me, is a missed opportunity. Why make a Les Paul when you can just buy one? Why not instead use this exercise to make something unique?

I'll more than likely go and build it from scratch, and I hadn't thought about making a unique design but now that you mention it I could just go nuts with it. Thanks for your help :D
