A while ago, Mr. Yahtzee Croshaw of The Escapist put out an article about ways to add some more gameplay to everyone's favourite cube-harvest simulator, and if you haven't read it, I recommend you check it out.

So it got me thinking, does anyone else here at our lovely site have ideas for cool custom gametypes in 3D Terraria?

Any suggestions would be more than welcome. ^-^

I have no suggestions for you, I just have to comment on Yahtzee's article and say that playing mods has apparently left me with a hella skewed view if getting your first diamond pick to get a nether portal (note you don't actually need that anyway) counts as a major operation.

(400 freaking bronze to make a blast furnace for flint and steel was what I needed last time incidentally).

Edit: I had something here about mods. I hadn't actually read the article at that point.

There's this game mode I like to call "Hardcore Zookeeper." You play on hardcore, obviously, and you try and catch five of each mob in the game that can be led placed in a little ranch by your house. Nether and The End mobs are exempt from this, for obvious reasons. Bats as well. Unless there's a way to lead them places I don't know of.

Unless someone wants to try and do the Nether and The End mobs I guess. I dub such a challenge "Impossible Zookeeper" mode.
