I owned them for a few years---they're prone to respiratory infections. If they stay healthy they're cheap to care for---just feed them well and take good care of them. But budget some money for vet care. Not my rats, sadly. Since the ex-wife left I haven't really been in a position to take care of pets, but I used to have a couple of rats of my own.
(and NO, they are not disposable pets!)
