The lack of rats in this thread makes me sad.

Not my rats, sadly. Since the ex-wife left I haven't really been in a position to take care of pets, but I used to have a couple of rats of my own.

The amount of care a rat would require is open for debate, I have always found it's hard to kill the damn things than keep them healthy.

I owned them for a few years---they're prone to respiratory infections. If they stay healthy they're cheap to care for---just feed them well and take good care of them. But budget some money for vet care. They will need it once in awhile, and antibiotics don't come cheap.

(and NO, they are not disposable pets!)
