Probably the only time in any game where I felt actual righteous fury. Those audio lines weren't an exaggeration, after that happened I definitely got better at the game, I took out every enemy plane in record time.

Also, the last major scene before the finale of Okami, what I call Issun's Big Debut. The only time I actually cried during a game(Actually started tearing up rewatching the scene just now).

Agro's death. Got way too attached to that stupid horse and it gets me every time

Might wanna spoiler tag that.

OT: Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee

Both the intro and the scene where he see the moon was his handprint on it. They give me goosebumps everytime

And I'll throw in the Guardian Angel clip just for that extra weirdness

Does this count?
It's so manly, I want to cry. I just wish the actual game was this epic.

That's right boys and girls! It's the "horribly slaughter a bunch of civilians on accident using one of the most horrifying weapons imaginable!

As someone who still actively loves MMS games, this scene really sucker punched me. During the bombing run beforehand, I was just bombing whatever was around. It was almost boring since there's really no way for the enemy to fight back during this part and was very much like the AC-130 of Call of Duty fame. We've seen this before Spec-Ops in CoD Spec-Ops, you're going to have to do...better.....than.....

...fuck me. What the hell did I just do?

Holy balls what a gut punch.
More like a dick punch. I saw the big blob of people and recognised what they were before the game forced me to kill them if I wanted to progress.

This is exactly what I was talking about in the first part of my post.

I don't know what exactly happened. Maybe the games success hurt it as people who the game isn't designed for (The MMS fanatic) started playing it. Maybe the "M Night Shyamalan" effect started to happen where people heard about the "Big Twist" and started looking for it rather than just play the game. Maybe I'm just an idiot and everyone else totally saw it coming with no prompting whatsoever but they decided to stay quiet about it until months after it came out to mess with my brain.

I'm sorry that it didn't have the same effect on you as it did on others. It was an absolutely gut wrenching moment for those of us who didn't see it coming and I seriously do wish that everyone could have experienced the moment in the same way that I did for I've NEVER had a game make me feel so bad over what I had done...

Red Dead Redemption's ending had a pretty big impact on me, I really genuinely felt like I was about to cry, seeing everything John fought for and loved taken away (especially considering I went with him during that whole journey) from him to that bastard Ross who betrayed him and got away with it, even his son turned into an outlaw, the life John wanted him keep him away from.

No ending has driven me to tears, but that game came the closest, I didn't want to play anymore after that, I just turned off the game.

While i'm on an overthinking spree i'll mention Yukiko's Persona. You know how her Konohana Sakuya has no feet but only elegant stumps? That's because she feels like she has nowhere to go and is stuck forever in Inaba.
Those stumpy feet are a common feature of demon designs in P3/4.

Take-Mikazuchi, Orpheus, Messiah, Himiko, Thanatos, and a bunch of others had them.

Not to mention Aigis, Metis and Labrys.
Yeah they are but where's the fun in just leaving it there without reading too far into it? Most of the other ones with them are just various other Personas that your guy can pick and mix and others fall into the robot category where they physically do have stumpy legs so their Personas follow suit.

Don't make me think up a reason why Kanji's one has stumpy legs either. In fact I already have an idea forming.

"This is Rupture farms..." has stuck with me for over a decade now.

Also the ending of Ratchet & Clank.

I love how there's no fanfare or celebration or awards or anything. After all's said and done, our heroes simply return home to relax and watch some tv.

And as much as I love shadow of the colossus, I would be remiss to not mention the ending of Ico. That whole section from when the song starts playing to the bit on the beach just resonates with my being.

The Walking Dead, obviously, the end of Season 1, Episode 5 when
Lee is saying goodbye to Clem... and when Lee instructs her to shoot him

Sometimes I tear up a little just thinking about it.

Evonisia mentioned a particular (great) scene from Silent Hill 2, here's another:

I've cherry-picked every little detail to boredom. The slow tracking shot with which it opens already underscores an ill omen. James and the player are supposed to be happy at seeing Maria after SPOILERS, yet there's no sense of triumph or glee. The slow camera pans that create a sense of disorientation and confuse as to which character is the one that's locked up. The design of the room already makes cell from non-cell practically indistinguishable. There's the lack of ambient sound, or music for that matter, which contrasts ominously with James' feeling of elation. Monica Horgan is off-putting as a character that can go from playfully coy to overtly sexual in just a few lines. The line "I'm not your Mary" nails me every time. It's blunt and intimidating and you can tell she's barely masking her true nature with it. Guy Cihi sounds drowsy throughout the whole game but I think that fits the story - he's in a lucid nightmare. Confused, growing a little desperate with every scene.

Above all what I like about this scene is that it sums up the ethos behind Silent Hill. Never mind the first game, or the continuity or lack thereof of The Order - the series has been built atop Silent Hill 2 and its simple yet frightening premise.

Haven't posted in ages!

I recently just finished my marathon of playing the new Metro Reduxes back to back (They are amazing!)

For those of you who haven't played it, there is as scene in Last Light where you are exploring the surface of post-apocalyptic Moscow. There are entities called "Shadows" that are essentially trapped souls forced to relieve their death to the nuclear blasts over and over, and some give flashbacks.

This is one of them, as you clamber through a crashed airliner

Gets to me every time. I always get goosebumps and choke up a little...

So what about the rest of you? What bits of games always get to you?
Same game. The ending. The one you need to work for. I won't spoil it, but it gets to me every single time.

The end credits sequence of Final Fantasy VI, where you see little flashes showing all the characters makes me cry. I mean, literally I cry tears from my eyes. Every single time. It's usually either Shadow or Locke and Celes that sets me off.

I just finished Okami for the first time a few hours ago, and I was struck by how that scene affected me, since it feels almost like the Giygas Fight from Earthbound, which is a game that made me quite emotional during its finale.

Other games that affected me:
Just before you fight the Queen in the final battle, she has treated you as garbage, putting you down, saying that her daughter could never fall in love with a boy with horns, and then you run at her with that big sword, the rebound of her spell blowing you back and breaking one of your horns, When the blood runs out is when I get serious and buckle down, it has moved me to tears.

Yeah, that scene in Okami got to me, too. A single, manly tear was shed.

The ending to the The Walking Dead always gets me. The line I make Lee say every time always gets to me.

When the last thing Lee tells a terrified nine year old is "Don't be afraid." before dying. I'm going to get teary eyed. Luckily, she doesn't shoot him in my ending.

Other than that, not many games come to mind. Games don't usually get to me.

Well I would put Spec Ops: The Line in there, buuuuuut everyone else has already.

To me I can only say the ending of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Just on the surface it seems like such a cheesy scene that goes on forever. But unlike some of the other cutscenes that I have watched in that game, there was not one moment where I didn't get bored of it. I cared about each of the characters that were in the story and found the resolutions to be almost perfect in that regard. They manage to tie up a lot of loose ends in the story and complete a lot of peoples character arcs.

Don't get me wrong the ending for Metal Gear Solid 3 got me to bawl my eyes out, but the end of 4? Almost every ending scene that was in that game was really emotional and hit me really hard.

All of which culminating in the last words that were uttered in the game. "This is good, isn't it?"

Papers Please. In the last few days of the month you are warned about being investigated and are given the option to steal passports so your family can escape the glorious Arztozka. I found the choice of what to do so difficult I stopped playing the game.

A lot of heavily story-based games really get to me (if they are well written that is). The Metro series, BioShock, BioShock: Infinite, Half Life 2, The Walking Dead etc. All those games have dozens of moments that really get to me. One thing I will point out specifically is it really hits me when a soldier that I grew attached to in XCOM dies on one of the missions.

Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days on the DS where...
Roxas and Xion fight each other for the last time, going through all of Xion's forms while some kickass music plays throughout...
The battle ends with Xion dying and Roxas saying the words "Who else will I have ice cream with?"...
For me, this whole sequence of events (both the cutscenes and full battle in question) really got to me afterwards... I literally put down the DS before I could continued playing through the rest of the game...

That's moment was good, but my absolute favorite moment was this:

It really set me up to believe we were going to finally escape. I thought it was really well played to have Yorda, a character who was weak, frail and dependent on you, turn things around and save you for a change. It was the first real desire or emotion you saw come from her. The first sign that she cared about anything. I found it really touching
