That's right world! Scientists in California have invented cyborg beatles that you can control with a computer. These monstrosities of science and flesh are but a few steps away from inciting the future robot war.

Terrifying, I know. But can you honestly say you don't want a swarm of robotic attack beatles of your very own?

Video Demonstration of Cyborg Beatle [http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1460879066?bctid=9472269001]

By the way, they control the beatle by zapping it's Optic lobes with electric pulses. Do you think PETA is going to flip out, or do they only care about the cuddly animals?

What does this technology herald for the future. Cyborg Dogs? Cyborg T-rex clones?

Do you think this is ethical?

That is amazing and sinister at the same time. This would be very effective at search and rescue missions, but it would never make it past the impenetrable wall of animal rights activists.

It will if we put electrodes into the protestors brains too. We can use them as shock troops.

There is no problem that cannot be solved by using more mind control.

this reminds me of the remote controlled rat that they created a little while ago, although it looked more successful(they were guiding it around obsticals and all sorts of stuff). As for the insects themselves, I just finished watching a scorpion and a turanchela fight to the death(it was AWSOME!), so I don't really care for how insects feel

Aw, I thought you meant John Lennon.

*throws tantrum*

EDIT: After watching the video, do you think the cyborg-ninja beatles could die from excessive spinning? Their brain might explode - and shrapnel would be everywhere. Think of the dangers, people!

now that would be a great day in Jesse world for sure. Go to the bar on my 19th birth day and get served by a cyborg gorilla waiter.... oh crap wait a second. You know what, we should ban this, we should stop this from ever happening, this is the first step to the Terminator -goes and hides-

So far the cyborg beatle can be induced to start and stop flying as well as naivgate in three dimensions. So while the rat might have been guided around obstacles it can't fly.

Flying cyborg totally beats Robo-rat

Heh. I saw the title and thought you were talking about the band.

Anyways, that's a bit unsettling.

Agreed on both counts. Incredibly cool, because we can control a beatle - certainly make a good prank one day. And very scary thinking of what other uses it could develop into.

I'm fairly sure Dick Cheney already has that technology but it was still in it's Alpha stages.

Dick Cheney doesn't use that technology, he is that technology. He is being remotely controlled by the spirit of Darth Vader.

Very true! And the Sith Lord is controlling Karl Rove. However THESE mechniations had controls for Mr. Bush... hence the mantra "everything third-party is rubbish" .. they were using Wii Controllers.

Your misspelling of, "Beetle," made me expect that we were gonna get a robo-"Hey Jude," or something...

Now I'm disappointed.
