I could theoretically be a DM (I've been one IRL long enough), but I'd at least like some more details before I agree to DMing for some complete strangers...
Well, I think that only one of us is experienced, but ive read up enough. They're all escapist members, none of us know eachother personally afaik. Not sure what edition we're going for. I guess we'd just have to get us all into one chat for the information..
I was thinking more in terms of timezones, available days, etc.
Playing with newbies isn't a problem... it'll just allow me to play it fast and loose with the rules like a proper DM, which is a good thing since online games tend to be even slower than irl games and it would suck to get bogged down with rules discussions.
When it comes to the editions, I'd prefer 3.5e myself, since I lack 4e experience and it's been ages since I played the older versions (though I could probably run an AD&D or 3e game with some brushing up). 4e probably wouldn't work anyway without a dedicated program since from what I've seen it's a pretty visual game (you'd need something to represent character position etc), while it's easy to handwave this in 3.5e.
If I may be so bold to make a suggestion: Have you considered a different RPG than D&D? If you've got your mind set on D&D that's cool, but there are RPGs that are better suited to online play than D&D.
