Damn, I thought this might be about a mini with some kind of D&D decals on it... Now I'm so very disapointed.

I find that anytime I enter a game/hobby/comic shop, I nearly cannot avoid the temptation of buying a new Dice set.

One of my players has 8 complete sets. I'm the DM, and I only have 3. My favorite set is a clear set with white numbering. I've rolled more 20s on that thing than I can count... Which sucks, because I'm the DM.

We do have a lot of miniatures though....

I've been wanting to get some D&D mini's, but just haven't brought myself to doing it yet. I don't really live close enough to anybody else that has them or a game shop, where I'd be able to really use them, and if I do get a D&D game going it's going to be over the net. Really want to grab some of the icon figures though. Freaking awesome looking.

i like miniatures, but I also find it completely acceptable to just have circles drawn on graph paper..... except when the DM has bad handwriting.

Personally, if the DM has teh epix skillzors at storytelling and bard-craft, you will have no need for feeble, mortal instruments such as minifigs. Or if you don't have pockets deep enough to fuel the figurine furnace. Kind of like Warhammer 40k.

As a certified dice-rolling dorknerd, I must admit my failure to really get the idea of miniatures. They're expensive and I find that they undermine the creative, imaginative aspect of the game. Besides that, I love making custom creatures and messing with the conventional perceptions of the monstrous usual suspects, and it's limiting to have to have half the field taken up with loose change to represent the stuff that exists only in my campaign. Which is one of the reasons 4e's shift to a more miniature- and grid-centric gameplay kind of irked me. I don't want to have to spend the extra time explaining to newbies what the little dolls mean, I don't want to limit my battlefield options to stuff that can be represented on a two-dimensional grid (did I also mention I LOVE aerial combat?), and I don't want the stigma associated with the miniature-painting nerd, even though I'm essentially a breath close to becoming one.

I WILL, however, mess with your mini collection and have dragon tea parties while waiting my initiative turn.
