Just a disclaimer, this has absolutely nothing to do with the MMORPG.

I was just considering about how I've been wanting to try playing Dungeons And Dragons but my lack of a social life means that there's no one I know who would try it and I don't know anyone who does do it. So, I was wondering, if there was some way to maybe set up an Escapist D&D thing using Stickam maybe? Character Sheets through .pdf files and one person with a webcam over the board. I'm not sure, it's a sort of day-dream but I'm pretty certain that The Escapist does have a D&D following so I was considering if it would be some how possible to make the D&D on-line through webcams and something like Stickam or Paltalk.

Why would you need webcams? If it's for dice I'm sure you could find a way of rolling over the internet, an IRC addon maybe.

And you may as well use Neverwinter Nights to create a module or another game that uses the DnD ruleset.

There are several methods in place and Escapist has an RP section (though there is very little D&D directly there).

If I remember correctly, there was also some kind of dice rolling ability added to the Escapist user group system for precisely this kind of thing. I rarely use User Groups so I dond't know, but with all the other freeware dice addons and software it really isn't too hard to get a decent game of D&D running over the 'net.

There may need to be webcams for boards. So people can see the map which most D&D sets require.

There's programs that allows you to make battle maps and move your characters and the monsters while playing online, which I believe would be preferrable to a webcam over the board. If you're not playing 4th edition you really don't even need a board (but then again, why would you want to play any other edition?).

Yeah, as I said I'm really new to D&D and been wanting to try it for ages. I only really knew of the stereotypical board set-up.

Is it an RPG/Board Game you're after, or just an RPG? D&D may be the most famous RPG, but it's actually more of a hybrid than a pure RPG. If you're looking for a pure RPG you should look elsewhere, the easiest to find players online for would be World of Darkness, but I'm personally not a fan of a lot of it's players.

Play-by-forum. You write out your moves and it has a RNG roll for you with an embedded command. No edits allowed for rerolls. I tried to bust in on one, but the only drawback is that a lot of games go dead when one or more people stop logging on, then again, that's a problem for any online DnD game.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. I just grew up hearing a tiny bit about D&D and D&D-like games here and there but was unable to try it. I'd guess I'd like to try a RPG/Board Game hybrid if that's what it really is.
