DA:O Rogue help

Ok guys (and girls), I have been playing Dragon Age (I love it so much), and I wanted to know two things about rogues.

1. Is it possible to be a successful rogue in both ranged and Dual-wielding (on the same character obviously)? I ask this because I have recently read that a dw rogue only has a few main abilities they should use (as spamming stamina skills doesn't work well) and I figured I could put those extra points into ranged abilities (like scattershot and stuff for safe-distance crowd-control)

2. Is there any way (on PS3) to control your ranger pets? (whether it be through changing their tactics or by manually controlling them)

1. I suppose its possible to at least be decent at both but honestly its not really worth the effort imo.
2. As far as I understand pets cannot be manually controlled and have very very limited command functions.

I don't think you can control your pets.
If you have a few left over points go ahead and put them in range..it won't really work too well but if you have nothing else go for it.
