So, I know that Dragon Age 2 is catching alot of heat as of late, to the point where it almost seems like it's becoming the fashionable thing to do. So I want to let some steam off here and defend (for the most part) a game that I really enjoy.
First, let me get the bad out of the way. This is not a matter of story or gameplay for me, but the glitches. Boy howdy, the glitches. Flickering people, crowds disappearing, lights are off-center and Isabela is in my house with a quest mark and won't leave, or even talk to me. But for me, these weren't game breakers. Annoying yes, and a bit silly, but they didn't occur often enough to really tick me off.
As for the reason I really enjoyed the game, it all comes down to one thing: I knew exactly what I was getting into when I got the game. I was fully aware that the combat was more hack n' slash. However, at higher levels, I found myself doing the same tactical dance between characters that I did in DA:O
Also, I knew that Hawke never really left Kirkwall or the surrounding area. This didn't really give the sensation of it being any less "epic" because I really got caught up in the politics, and the ramifications affect all of Thedas, that's pretty epic to me.
The story also flowed very well for me. You see the underlying tensions from the get-go, the Qunari threat brings those tensions to a head then it all exploded in act 3. Simple as that.
So there it is. If you came in thinking that this was going to be DA:O again, I can understand the disappointment, but if you come in with no expectations and an open mind, there really is a good game here. And yes, I know that having no expectations can mean low standards, but it doesn't have to be that way, and sometimes thats what you need to have fun. So please, comment, share your experience, and let the flame wars begin, I suppose.
