My generation has put me in an awkward position 'cos almost no-one shares my tastes in music. Like, no-one, well some people but my school has no respect for some actual GOOD music not people swearing a lot or screaming very loud into a microphone. I like David Bowie, the only time I listened in Chapel it convinced me that David Bowie is the one and only king, he is just awesome. I like Pink Floyd, their Techno-Rock stuff is just moving, only two songs have moved me to tears before. First was Under Pressure, the second being Learning to Fly. Very moving songs. In teach one tome a year 10 who spends his double free's with our tech and he played Shine On you crazy diamond. Know what everyone replied "Turn it off, this music is so depressing. And I'm like (in my head)WTF? This is SUPPOSED to be depressing it's music with a message. A message that isn't "have sex with me" or "Life sucks so much." I also the like the Beatles, the only band I can really share in common with anyone is Muse. Does anyone else share my views? What do you think about this? Is Brittany Spears to blame by making the late 90's and early 00's all about pop? OmegaCheese OUT! May the king be with you!

BTW, I don't listen, 'cos I'm an aethiest. One of the very few in Year 8

Blah, blah blah this generation sucks blah blah blah. The world is going to ruin. No one really cares that your opinion in music is different from your peers. Just get that stick out of your ass, and come back down from the clouds with the rest of humanity.

Edit: That sounded a little harsh. If you don't like what other people are listening to, then stop caring. Music is music and it will change in a couple of years.

Well, I really like David Bowie, Pink Floyd are the greatest band to ever write music (although I'm really only a fan of "Piper at the Gates of Dawn", and then their albums starting with "Atom Heart Mother" up to and including "The Wall", I don't care for their later stuff when Roger Waters left the band), and The Beatles are amazing.

As for Muse, well.... FUCK YEAH I like Muse. I've really just gotten into them recently after downloading "Absolution" (which was an amazing album), and I recently saw them in concert - and just let me say, best...show....EVER. So yeah, you've got some good taste in music my friend.

No, it's not harsh, it's perfectly reasonable, I asked for your opinion you gave it, that's all I'm asking

David Bowie's alright, a lot of the music I listen to is before my and my generation's time, I got it from my father. Big on anything rock from the 60's to the 80's, though I don't listen to anything in specific too avidly. It does sort of annoy me that I have trouble connecting with friends of mine because our music tastes are from separate times (not bashing what they listen to).
Basically, I don't really dig pop music, but for the most part on this kind of issue:

Rather than respond to your comment with sarcasm, I'll just try to maitain myself and answer in a straightforward manner - David Bowie is a very famous singer/songwriter who was extremely popular during the 70s and early 80s. Just google him, and you'll see. Throughout his career, he experimented with a number of different musical styles, and is heralded by many as one of the most influential artists of his time.

Eh, your musical taste differs from other kids your age. Enjoy your music and let other people enjoy theirs. Also, you said that other people your age don't really get your music, but I have a feeling that you don't get theirs other. Some people don't want to listen to music for the message it might have, that's why they didn't like Shine On You Crazy Diamond. They prefer to listen to music that makes them feel good, instead of bumming them out.

Hmm, your right. That's a good look on things. Thanks. Like I need any more convincing, hooray for antisocialism. (Surprisingly I have freinds!)

I listen to a lot of different music, the kind of thing you're talking about (rap) is black rap,the one where it's all about being mad at the white man (some rappers) but killing their own instead, and whores and bitches and sucking dicks where as white rap (Beastie Boys, Ghetto Socks, Classifed) rap about, well silly stuff (their songs are great and their videos (beastie boys) are silly and entertaining)

I am not accusing you specifically of anything, but most of the people who are like "my music > your music" are complete assholes. It's a matter of taste, and taste in art doesn't define a person. As cheesy as it may sound, what characterizes you is what you do with your life.
Well your right, there's no way of me saying what I said without sounding like that. In fact when talking about music, when it come's to personal taste, there's gonna be one of these cases.

I listen to the music that metalhead snobs listen to, as well as music that metalhead snobs would laugh at me for. For example, I listen to everything from prog metal to pop-punk. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that you like the music you like, and no one can change that. It doesn't make you a worse person if you listen to Hannah Montana, it just means you have different taste.

There are people that will listen to music JUST BECAUSE it is unpopular/popular though, and those guys tick me off.
