So being a huge music fan and avid patriot I have a huge appreciation and collection of the greatest genre of music my country has ever produced that being the blues.I'm just curious to get The Escapist's view on the blues and also curious if there are any other bluesmen/women out there as well.

Also I'm using the term blues loosely it can be from it's earliest form played by artist like Charlie Patton to the newer more vibrant renditions by bands like The Black Crowes.Basically blues/rock,bluegrass,gospel/blues,and straight Mississippi delta blues you know all that good stuff.

One of my favourite genres, with people like Howlin' Wolf and the more modern Seasick Steve constantly showing up on my most played lists.

Buddy Guy is absolutely amazing his vocal style has so much power behind as well as the great Howlin' Wolf, though my favorite bluesman has to be Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I'm more partial to jazz myself, though many blues songs are quite good too. I generally like the sort of blues music that isn't too, how to put it... country-esque. My dad always used to play the ol' CCR and Springsteen so I've sort of grown tired of them, not to say I don't appreciate the greats though.

Oh jazz is great, actually if you want to hear a good Jazz/blues song that really stylizes both genres check out Riviera Paradise by SRV.Though I would say Springsteen isn't the best representation of the genre neither CCR as much as I love them. The black blues artist are really the ones who get the right mix of country/blues or The Black Crowes.

I think it's a far cry from pure blues, but I do like Tom Waits and he definetly has a few blues:y songs that I enjoy listening to.

EDIT:

I guess a sample or two is in order:

I think this classifies as bluesrock. One of my favourite bands at the moment.

First time I've seen a thread about Blues on here, although it's higly appreciated. One of my favourite genres of music. It defined a generation! Kudos to you for bringing it up. I hope to see a lot of great tracks on here. *Bookmark*

Ohh yes!

Love me some Blues. John Lee-Hooker, Muddy Waters, Ledbelly and Howlin' Wolf are some of my favourite of the older guys, but I love some newer stuff too, Tom Waits especially. Clutch do some good bluesy stuff too, and some covers. I prefer the older stuff by far and away though, newer blues jsut sounds like its missing something.

Also, without the Blues we would be without many of the great bands that have now. The Rolling Stones for example, no Blues, no Stones, and that would be a terrible thing for the world...

As a lover of the blues and being I've seen Clutch live I can honestly say I don't care one bit for them,The guitarist had absolutely no stage presence and the singer didn't do enough to make up for his band.
Maybe they're just one of those bands who sound better on record than they do live. A lot of bands are like that, doenst mean they're a bad band overall.

Yep, blues is one of my favorite genres along with jazz and fusion. It's also the easiest genre to just pick up and improvise to.

Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ry Cooder, Peps Persson & Taj Mahal to name a few.

I'm for Jazz myself, even though it's a genre that only recently has started to grow on me. I'm not as familiar with blues as I'd like to be :-/

You know, as much as I like the blues I don't listen to much of it, the closest I usually get are blues rock bands like Cream, Blue Cheer or Clutch.

That said I do love Seasick Steve, SRV and the odd other, usually for the purposes of learning stuff. That said, I'm not a bg fan of guys like Gary Moore or Joe Bonamassa, I find it lacks a bit of character usually, which is what the blues is all about.

Niiiiiice, although my personal fav is Starving in the Belly of a Whale, not bluesy at all.... not really anything, unless you resort to the generic term of "alternative".
