Have been watching trailers and making of videos on Steam for Damnation over the last couple of days, and I have to say I think it looks like it could be genuinely incredible. The steam-punk aesthetic, platformer-style levels and magnificent level design is almost justifying the ridiculous £50 price tag Game have put on it!

Anyone else loving Damnation, or is it just me?

Your ideas please.

I've read a few reviews which have said it is terrible...

The First 2 out have given it 3/10 :(

50£ for a game, gah. That's the regular price for any mainstream game in Norway... bloody importing... the big titles go for 60£

£50?! That's why I NEVER go to Game. It's £40 in Gamestation, which is average for a new game.

£40 is still pretty expensive methinks. Games up here usually go for about £30.
Anyway, I haven't really seen too much of Damnation, the last I heard it was Gears of War meets Super Mario Brothers, then I completely lost intrest because that sounds fucking stupid.

I haven't seen a ton about it, and what I have seen I'm not really sure what to make of. It looks rather...schizophrenic right now. It's a shooter-platformer-action-adventure-open-world bonanza. But when games try so hard to fit into so many genres, they usually tend to overextend themselves *cough*Fallout 3*cough*

It certainly looks pretty...but everything looks pretty right now. Interesting concept, but again, plenty of good ideas can be executed poorly. On the whole...I just don't know. It doesn't intrigue me enough to want to buy it when it first comes out. I'll probably pick it up used in a few months when the prices come down. The organic path-finding system seems pretty cool, but it also looks like a fairly shooter-heavy game without much tactical abilities (no cover system, no camping out to snipe enemies, making the included sniper rifle kind of pointless). I think if you're going to have such a sprawling world and broadcast all the different paths you can take and ways you can solve problems, you could at least include some way to play the game somewhat stealthily. But no, the developers seem to want you to just blast everything in sight, and that's really not my kind of game.

The gunplay is quite lousy. You have to hold down the RMB to ready your gun; not just to aim it, but to pull it out and fire it entirely. This takes way too long and gets you shot up all the time. There is no cover mechanic and crouching behind walls doesn't work either (you shoot the wall). Other than that it plays like a lame version of Tomb Raider. Snooze fest. Skip it.

I *really* haven't heard all that much about Damnation, so I really can't say one way or another what the hell it's all about or if it'll turn out to be good. I can make an educated guess, though, and I'm guessing it's not going to be the next Bioshock.
