Why? Just why.

I have been getting games at blockbuster for a while now using their monthly plan for games. This morning I went in and found a new game on the top 10 shelf (at place number 3, just above resident evil 5). That game was Damnation. The back of the box look good, so I decided to rent it.

It was a horrible mistake. This game brings new meaning to the world bad.

But back to the point of this form: Why did they make this game. Did no one play thought it? How did it get past beta-testing? Do they even care that it was so bad? What were Blue Omega thinking?

Isn't that the beauty of BlockBusters. You can rent and then return! It's not like you spent 60 bucks on it and now your stuck with it.

Well, Damnation is, I will admit, a very interisting concept, the setting is interisting and the gameplay of having basicly combine Prince of Persia-n like climbing and level movements along with wild gunning like that would have been a very very very good concept. Sadly as of that the game itself is, as you already hint at, unfinished in a lot of ways.

Gamestar, Bennet the Sage and even the Escapist review all together were pesimistic about the game. The Sage actuallly went as far as rating the game lower than Leisure Suit Larry - Boxoffice (rather 'bomb') Bust... and that game was just a shame of modern gaming...

Also a theory that came up when the Escapist reviewer mentioned it in the video supplement, the developers might have been very ambitious but just had neither the resources to pull it off, nor do many people give the team the experience to work on such a big project.

Sorry to say mate, but you have been ripped off, even if it was just a rental. Nevertheless, this will hopefully give you a little bit of a motivation to check the reviews here on the Escapist more regulary. Sure, they don't go through all the big titles but they do give good insights and otherwise: there are plenty more reviwers and critics out there, that warn ya about stuff like Damnation.

Rest in pieces, ambitious game of awesome premise and scaringly bad execution. You will be forgotten rather soon.
