So, my fellow Escapists, do you dance? If you do, what kind of style (be it breaking, hardstyle, the waltz etc.) do you prefer? Any sort of video of that general type of dance or the type of music would be appreciated.

I personally am a fan of Industrial dancing:

Most of my dancing is some variation of the pelvic thrust.

Rock is 10% talent, 90% pelvic thrust.

Guitar hero is 0% talent, 100% pelvic thrust.

I excel at the latter.

Exsqueeze me, baking powder? That's a very... interesting dance vid you've got there, OP. Not really sure what to make of it, to be honest.

And no, I don't dance. There is a vid of me, on Facebook, dancing to Cee Lo Green's 'Fuck You' and doing it great justice, I might add.

The thread title makes me think of that one scene in the Bad Lieutenant remake. You know the one.

Personally, I can't dance at all if it's not choreographed and practiced. I'm proficient at Broadway style dancing, but not great. Not good enough to lead a dance, but good enough to be part of a group.

The New Yorker night club dance... have you seen those guys? Put on some Jazz and they are gone. I wish I could dance like that. I actually have a friend who is a bboy (Break dance) and man he is good. Beyond good.

I occasionally rave in my room to Deadmau5 or headbang/fist pump to whatever calls for it.

Also, I love the avatar, OP.

I see this and I really have to wonder what the hell are these people thinking. One guy wearing female goth boots, and the other one is wearing carpi pants.

Anyway, Yeah, I do no dance, because well, Dance is an archaic artform that has LOOOOOONG outlived its purposes. If I wish to be entertained, I can read a book, turn on tv, watch a film, play a game, play a song, write a song, write a book, etc etc ect. If I want to court a mate, There are plenty of more realistic means to do so than rhythmic convulsions set to repetitive music.

Just my opinion, If you like dance or dance music, or whatever this is actually called, more power to you. However I dont feel that its some sort of prerequisite in the modern world as its really serves no purpose any more.

Excuse me? I know this is your opinion, but may I attempt to sway it to my favor?

Moshing is as close to dancing as I get...<.<
Unfortunatly there are very rare times around here when moshing is appropriate for a concert, atleast to me.

The dress style is a bit off-putting for a lot of people. XD
I enjoy it for the exercise and music, but I can see how it is slightly absurd to some; not that you said it was.

Shuffling and Jumpstyle, though I don't like the crowd associated with it anymore. I can't dance for shit so whenever I hear 'Move Your Feet' by Senior Junior I just flip out.

Does the "Macarena" count? 'Cause it's that or nothing for me. Maybe the "Truffle Shuffle"....

I dance to any type of rhythmic music in the right setting.

When I dance, I just move my body how I feel, which is usually a cross between having a seizure and filming a hardcore workout video. It's funny, because even though I play music frequently, I have shit rhythm and don't like any established form of dancing.

Well I welcome the attempt, but I do not think that referencing the apex embodiment of what is bad about dance, and the very definition of why musicals need to cease to exist will not help your cause.

People do NOT break out in random choreography or song. West Side story is one of those things that if you remove 100% of the actors singing and the dancing you are left with a barely mediocre narrative, incapable of standing on its own merit. It is for some reason considered one of the best in history, Yet It relies on the crutch of "for a musical" which is little more than admitting all musicals are inherently inferior to non musical/choreographed narrative and must be judged by a different and gentler set of standards.

I somewhat figure this argument against musicals will fall on deaf ears considering that this is a very disney centric crowd of MEs, who grew up on musicals, but again, to each their own. I thank you for the attempt, but it has failed to sway my opinion.

EDIT: Final thought.

One last thought on the subject....

Ok is it just me or is it really sad that the EmoMEs were so weak that they had to rip off a dance from the only source they know of?

Ballroom dancing for the win! I love swing and waltz, but my favorite is the tango or night-club two step. I have a tango routine!

On the other side, I do enjoy the occasional rave. And maybe (my favorite) a Pants-Off Dance-Off.

And just public embarrassment. The look on everyone's faces when they see me doing the "Forbidden Dance." Priceless.

I'm not a dancer and have very little experience dancing and even less skill. I've learned only the very basic stuff in ballroom dancing or something.
