I apologize first of all if this thread has been done, but I couldn't find anything so:

I was wondering, when does a sport become to violent? As boxing as seen as a good sport, but remove the gloves and suddenly its illegal, but I have never felt the gloves do that much. And say, Rugby. Its very dangerous, I have played for about 3 years, and seen at least 10 injuries were someone had to go to hospital. But people find that entertainment.

So my point, when does a sport become too dangerous?

It never becomes too dangerous. More danger = more viewers (UFC).

Boxing is very dangerous though, you can lose your ears.

There isn't really a cut off point with regards to danger, although any sport where the aim is specifically to kill the other guy will probably be made illegal.

I race mountain bikes and bmx, at every meeting I've ever been to five or six people get carted off to hospital and to go a whole weekend without getting some kind of massive bruise is rare. I think the attitude of the people involved is more important than the built in danger of the sport.

I think a sport is classified as dangerous when either it's designed to kill people (Like shooting or martial arts), or when the tiniest of slips can kill you without any hope of magical nurses knitting your bones back together (Climbing big things. Like mountains.)

When wrestling 3 angry grizzly bears in the nude with nothing but a toothpick and a spork is the norm.
