From the plot synopsis they gave at the bottom its looks like they payed almost no attention to the Divine Comedy itself. It may be a good game but I think its frankly insulting to Alighieri's work to call what appears to a God of War clone with religious overtones Dante's Inferno.

There was a fetus in that trailer? I honestly didn't notice.
I believe that one of the enemies announced will be some kind of deformed baby. Which brings me back to the Tentacle Abortions of Dead Space. Babies are a line I don't like crossed in games or movies, so that's a big minus point from me.

It feels AWESOME! They can't fight back ;)
I think fetus monsters can be a good design. They are disturbing to look at. It's what made Nihilanth creepy.

Though I have to say I don't like the art style of Dead Space. It seems to simply throw pulsating bags of organs at you. Which makes me want to vomit.

Weak stomach?

I loved the art in Dead Space... very crude and uncompromising. Not typical EA style which made it a winner in my book.

Looks good. But is that Gameplay or Cut Scene footage. I got excited about Rise of the Argonauts before release and look how that turned out. I doubt this will sell but I'm definately intrigued by the premise. Using classic literature as games is inspired and hopefully will mean more devs and publishers take a chance on new ideas. War is fast becoming a bore.

As for the purists. Bollocks. Poeple have been interpretting liturature for ever.

My only concern is the combat will become dull. Let's face it. This is God of War in all but name.
The monsters and environments look great though.
Colour me curious.

I will probably get it, Ive always wanted to play a bad ass shinigami (thats Reaper for in English). I see it as a game based loosely around the premises of the book. And that doesnt really bug me.
well aren't you cool with your japanese *makes smug noises*

I do think this game will be OK as long as you completely disregard the fact that they are trying the base this game off of the book.

Thank God! I was worried that the greatest literature epics were never going to be abused and defamed by dirty profiteers with more respect for their wallets than the source material!
My thoughts exactly.

Once they run out of epics, I hope they move to things like Dune. They can just get rid of the plot and make it a hack-and-slash. It'll be great!
The thought of them doing that to Dune hurts my soul. I'm starting to understand where everyone that respects The Divine Comedy is coming from.

Sort of.....I can stand walking abominations of nature and cutting them into fleshy bits. It's when I'm surrounded by giant pulsating organs and flesh that I get sick.

It sounds like the only relation this will have to the actual poem will be the fact that the main character is called Dante and that he goes to Hell. I suppose there was no hope that the game would have anything to do with the source material, but do you really have to associate an epic poem with this inevitably awful game?

It would be interesting to see if they made sequels, though. I'd love to see them turn Purgatoria and Paradiso into games that anyone would buy.

Actually, I wouldn't love that, because they'd be horrific bastardisations that will make me want to kill the developer. Like Inferno will be.

I still think there is a chance that the game will turn out to be good. The most ideal scenario would be if the level designers took a leaf out of Dante's book (no pun intended) and the gameplay designers would stick to plain old god of war or devil may cry.

However, am I correct when i infer that the guy needs to rescue his girlfriend ? And if she is trapped in the last level of Dante's hell, the dude may seriously be better off without her.

it looks MEH and i doubt i'll ever feel somewhat tempted to check it out

probably another one of those God of War style killing sprees that bore me more than a narcoleptic sloth teaching botanic, except now bastardizing a timeless piece of literature
Exactly what i was gonna say. NO-ONE, but NO-ONE, baztardizes timeless epic literature. Not dante, not shakespeare, not anyone!

And besides, if we want to play as a guy called dante killing demons with a big weapon...
We have devil may cry.
Actually, i'm worried that some DMC fanboys (and possibly other people) will say how Dante's inferno ripped off DMC. Little do they no it's vice-versa. Except instead of ripping off, capcom just took inspiration.
