After playing the demo for Dante's Inferno it struck me how quickly the game goes from one area to the next. This made me worry that the game would be a bit short but then I thought, do the developers want us to think the game will only feature Hell, to make it a bigger surprise when we travel through purgatory and Heaven?

It's a slim chance I know and I'm setting up expectations which normally doesn't work out well in the video game industry but I'm curious as to what The Escapist community thinks. Do you think they would do this and if so, is it a good idea?

As a side note, Dante would be fighting in Purgatory and Heaven because he was corrupted by Lucifer or something.

As far as I'm aware Dante's Inferno is focused on Hell. I could be wrong though.

I'm mentally prepared for Dante's Inferno being a short game because that's what EA have been doing for the last few years: release short games.
If you ask me, there are two possibilities at this point: Either we get to see Purgatory and Heaven as part of the ending, maybe with some interactivity left for the player, or they'll save those two for one or more potential sequels; whether the latter option applies will most likely depend on the game's sales figures.
All in all, though, I hope this game remains a stand-alone, and I remember that when reading the actual poem I didn't really find Purgatory and Heaven nearly as interesting as the 9 circles of Hell anyway.

There's 9 layers to Hell, then Satan has his own layer to himself. The demo is short because it wants to show off as much as it can without spoiling the story, and without letting you play too much. I don't think this game will be terribly short, but if it is, then its probably going to have unforgiving difficulty. And even if the entire demo is the first layer, Limbo, that's the least interesting of layer of them all.

That would defeat the whole purpose of the poem, as at the end of Paradise, through God's love Dante eventually redeems himself (though the game has twisted the plot of Inferno a fair bit, so it is a possiblilty).
I wouldn't have thought they would have included Purgatory and Paradise, they couldn't keep that big of a secret to themselves!

We didn't even get to hell properly in the demo, so I'm not worried that it's too short.

I doubt we'll see any more than hell.

I'm guessing that if it does well then they'll be saved for sequels. Dante's Purgatory? Dante's Paradise?

I assume they want to do a trilogy, otherwise it'd be like doing only Fellowship of the Rings or something.
