Recently I finished Dragon age: Origins and I was really mad that it didn't send me back to before the climax, incase I wanted to play again. Just to rube it in my face, It sent me back prior to the climax, but only to play DLC levels.

Name any RPG other than DAO the wont let you play on once you have finished. Thats just bad game design.

Overall DAO was a pretty good RPG and I would recommend it. While I'm aware that it was made for multiple play throughs, the campaign was a bit short.

What are your views on this slap-dash finaly of last minute fail.

Ummm... Fallout 3 (pre-broken steal). Mass Effect 1 and the KOTORs come first in my mind as RPGs that end.

I only thought that DAO ending made sense. I mean, why would your character do missions after saving the world/dieing saving the world? I don't see ending a story in a dramatic way as bad game design.

Why would you want to go back and do silly and stupid side missions after saving the world from a horrible beast?

First off, this isn't a review. It's just complaining.

Second, why don't you try counting the RPGs that DO allow you to keep playing after the ending? Most RPGs don't really have anything to do after completing the main quest. The only reason something like Oblivion can get away with it is because the world is so expansive that the main quest tends to get ignored anyway... which, by the way, is NOT a good thing!

I mean, after the Archdemon was defeated, what were you hoping to do afterwards? Run around picking off random fleeing darkspawn? Hunt down Gaxkang the Unbound if you haven't already? Perform random acts of kindness/cruelty to obtain yet more gold you have no conceivable way of spending?

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 end, KOTOR 1 and 2 End, Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 end, Fallout 3 ends, Jade Empire ends, Mass Effect 1 ends, every JRPG I can think of ends (I'm sure there are some that don't, I just can't think of any)...should I keep going?

Dragon Age was meant to end. There was a finite end to the story. And if it was 'too short' then you either didn't do any side-quests, or you expect ridiculous lengths from your games. First time I played through the game was about 40 to 45 hours. That's pretty long.

And this isn't a review. It's a small rant with a tacked on recommendation.

Not much of a review... should have been posted in the Gaming forum.

A story that ends is bad design? How did you come to that idea?

Oh, you're upset that you can't do all the side quests you skipped? Because the only way you could think of DA:O as too short is a speed run, or you use MMo's as your standard.

Perhaps with this post I quote all, but this man relly put alot of effort into missing the point so I will quote him.
My mind wonders back to the game "LoZ:Wind Waker" which was extremely expansise and offered alot of play-time. After the climactic boss battle and the cinematic ending, If you wanted to play a bit more you loaded the game and you appeared outside the final dungeon. The same with most if not all Loz games, which are action RPGs.

Dragon age: origins finishes, and then lets you potter around the camp until you pay for some DLC which takes place "prior" to the end anyway.

No, you just missed the point. The ending was good. The part after though... I though RPGs should have perfected this.

Please don't make assumptions on information you don't have as it makes you look stupid. Not that you haven't done so already.

Actually I only had a handfull of quests left and I don't play MMo's. Stupid, ignorant people these days...

I ment in a way that you could repeat the final scene if you wanted to, like in Zelda.

Now lets see if I understood this time. Apparently all those games still fit the description, since they all end.

Besides, why would your character want to kill a dragon you already killed? Doesn't make too much sense to me. If you would've wanted to replay it, you could've saved before it. Or you could just replay the game, since it's a really good game.
