Dark Sect... I mean Warframe is looking cool

So a bit of backstory, basicly a long time ago a trailer for a game called Dark Sector came around and it was very cool, it had some style and the idea of a behind enemy lines game was neat (a bit like the first Metal Gear). The soundtrack also had a nice contrast with the sci-fi theme.

Later on there came a second trailer that basicly removed everything that made the game interesting due to decisions by the publisher, now it looked more like a Gears Of War game (this was after the release of the first one).


While the game didnt ended up being bad it was generic and the overall feel is that it could have been better, or at least try.

Now Digital Extreme is release Warframe as a free to play game that basicly uses all assets from the original Dark Sector concept.



It would have been cooler if it was a story focused game instead of an instance based free to play game but at least it does retain the same type of action and atmosphere.

One thing that does look cool though is that it seems that if you go solo (or with a small team that is willing to communicate) you can do some sneaking (still havent seen anyone do it on youtube though.

Either way, kind of funny to see a project that would be presumed dead come out of nowhere.

Funny, I thought it wasn't terribly generic but just pretty bad, or at least mechanically mediocre. Doesn't help that the PC port was the most shameful thing I've ever seen, but still... it never felt like it was trying to be Gears of War, it just felt like the budget for enemy AI and decent weapon feel had been put into building the environments and that glaive instead.

Anyway, yeah, I saw TotalBiscuit's WTF Is... of Warframe earlier today, definitely think I'd be more interested if it were more of a single-player game, but if it's FTP then I can't really complain too much. I might try it out at some point in the unspecified future.

I remember hearing that dark sector was suppose to be a ps3 exclusive game but that never panned out. That original trailer looks awesome but I don't like the looks of old Hayden the one in the actual game looks better.

Yeah dark sector wasn't a great game but I still liked and I hope one day to see a sequel to it. I hope Digital Extreme does well with this new project(they did a great job with the darkness 2)

Yeah I was hoping for a sequel as well. Not the greatest game, but I enjoyed it and it's multiplayer while needing some serious changes. Had some fun and interesting modes.

I may have to check out this when it comes out.
