I'm not good on making threads, so I will keep it short. Thanks to Steam Summer Sale I've decided to buy myself a copy of Dark Souls game. I heard though a lot how PC version is an awful console port that needs many mods to run smoothly (Yeah, I'm exaggerating a little). Since the game is around for quite a while I believe there are many experienced players who know exactly which variety of mods is the best to use within the game. I know I could simply google it but I'm not sure which mods are the best, would they overlap or work together properly. That being said I would like to ask you guys for advise which mods should I install, preferably with links to them, so they would work together perfectly. I'm not sure will this matter but I don't plan using a gamepad of any sorts and I would prefer not to use mods that would alter the gameplay itself too much.

DSFix. [http://darksouls.nexusmods.com/mods/19/?]

It's pretty much all you need, in my opinion. It adds most of the basic functionality a normal port would have in the form of .ini files, like resolution changes, graphical tweaks, unlocked framerate, etc.

I'm sure there's more you could check out, especially if you're not going to use a controller, but I strongly recommend using a controller. Seriously. The keyboard + mouse controls are awful. Terrible. The worst things to ever happen to PC gaming. I'm exaggerating, but they're bad. If you have a gamepad for the PC, or an Xbox 360 pad or even a PS3 controller (which you'd need to look up how to set up if you haven't used it prior), use it. You'll probably regret it if you don't.

There are a few suggestions on that thread. To be honest though, I've played it for about the last week with an xbox controller and no mods which has gotten me around the biggest issue people had with the game; which was it poorly set up controls for keyboard and mouse.

DSfix fixes resolution, texture, and maybe framerate issues.

DS mouse fix makes the keyboard/mouse controls better and is designed to be used with DSfix.

That said, I'd still recommend getting either a 360 controller or a dualshock 3 as they're generally considered to be a much better controller for DS than keyboard and mouse.

Go to Dark Souls Nexus [http://darksouls.nexusmods.com//?] that's where pretty much all the mods you'll need are. The primary one that you'll want is DSFIX [http://darksouls.nexusmods.com/mods/19//?] it unlocks the games framrates and make it smoother there are other options that you can enable as well but the framerate is the primary concern of the game.

I don't know where they are are on the site but there are mods that make using keyboard and mouse more tolerable, but vanilla the controls for KB+M are pretty shit, and the game was designed head to toe to be played on a gamepad.

There's also various texture packs and whatnot that improve the looks of the game.

As far as I know there aren't any mods that adjust how the game plays, since the game is already hard as balls anyways there is no need for mods that increase the difficulty any further.
