Not really game shattering to be honest. That implies that it makes it unplayable, sure i've come across my fair share of glitchers and hackers but for the most part i've been ok. I've invaded 2 worlds and won once and been invaded three times and won twice. Its been relatively grief free for me. I've seen my fair share of Hackers and glitchers enter my world but its too infrequent for me to really care.

What i really want to know is why people have such an obsession with wielding the largest Two-Handed weapons they can find? I'm a somewhat Bulky knight yet i can get by those weapons pretty easily. I don't know how these people face off against Thiefs.

Serious note, this is awful.

I mean, I'm not even a fan of these games, and I feel this is fucking awful.

Is this a glitch console exclusive or can it be done on the PC as well?
I guess it doesn't really matter anyway.

Goddamn, if I where a fan of this game, Id be some kind of pissed right now.
S'cool games already got a savior

And yeah, PC too, a few glitches and hacks. I've been PVPing for the Forest covenant, Some of the players are using some kind of HP cheat where i can deal 8697 damage and nothing will happen. As well as unlimited Stamina so you can't break their block and they'll be able to roll around constantly

I'm fine with being invaded. But I like being invaded "fairly." That means by people who don't abuse glitches and are polite and respectful when murdering you to bits.
Exactly! would performing a proper bow once and a while before battle kill them? No honor among phantoms these days.

Playing in Offline mode means you miss out a lot on what makes Dark Souls, Dark souls. You might not think its much of use but he does and so do i. I love the Red Soap stone hints from other players, the occasional invading of a world and the invading of mine. I like summoning White phantoms, I like summoning my brothers of the sun to help me best Ornstien and Smough on New Game +. I haven't experienced it that often, but i know others have, especially the ones that love PvP. Its not fair that a entire section of the games content can be full of such hackers. I don't mind the soul exploitation as much as i do the wanton hacking and deliberate attacking of New players. You play in Offline mode, that's fair enough, this will never be your problem but for those who do enjoy online mode it upsetting to say the least.

Now on to "Trippy Turtle". Basically what i said up there, but on another note. How can you say to the OP "Don't use glitches"?. How does that solve anything? He wasn't using them anyway! Its other people that are using these glitches and hacks. This also means that the PvP is just pathetically one sided. My first play through i thought i was doing amazing. Soul Level 123, i thought was quite good then thunders in someone Soul Level 715, That's about 3 million souls required to reach that. The amount of stat scaling from that is immeasurable and these people find a way to muscle into your world and its really no contest half the time.

There are a couple of nasty glitches sitting in the game at the moment. This is one, but fortunately you can get around it by getting through part of the game, and moving past the griefers in soul level.

The one that I really hate is a glitch with the dragon roar, which creates a force wave which knocks you backwards. One current glitch lets you do this infinitely, with no time gap. No matter how high your poise is, you can't get through, and projectiles are blocked. So it's just sit there until the invader forces you off the edge. I fucking hate it.

I guess we can just hope that they fix it when/if they release the DLC on console.

The perk here is that glitching in Dark Souls completely voids any and all bragging rights and respect you earn from completing the game. Most people I know admit to glitching if they've done it, and accept the fact that it's not a legitimate win. The ones that lie are undone pretty easily. Anyone who's completed it legitimately knows what it takes, so you only have to ask a few questions to figure out if they've done the dodgy.

However, Dark Souls is also a very cool game in regards to bosses, general monsters, level layout and story scenes. And some people really do just suck at games. If someone is forced to glitch because they'll never see the rest of the game if they don't, I'm down with that. People can play the game however they want ultimately. The PvP part isn't cool, but what can you do? I'd still prefer people play it to ragequitting within 30 minutes and returning the game to the store.

In honesty, when the DLC eventually comes to PS3, I'm not really looking forward to playing the entire game again just to see the new content. I have several hundred other things to play, and the first playthrough took long enough. If a glitching option is still available by then, I may use it just so I can see all the cool new stuff. I won't be able to see I beat it legitimately until I come back one day and do it proper... but at least I'll see it.

Um... I don't really know what the problem is here. If you don't want to use the Bottomless Box glitch, don't use it. If you don't want to be invaded, stay hollow. And it doesn't make the game SUPER EASY WAH because you have to have got that far in the game anyway to get the items.
Really you don't see the problem? The problem isn't about not wanting to be invaded , it's about people that invade you have an unfair advantage and you have no chance unless you cheat also . Meaning , the multiplayer is basically unavailable to you unless you are a cheater .

Just because YOU didn't touch it , doesn't mean no one else wants to . And multiplayer is a pretty good aspect of the game , which you'd know if you actually touched it :/ .

If others cheat in their own game they only ruin things for themselves, you just like to be fussy about it.

But if it does create an unbalanced PvP character it needs to be patched.
How exacly will you patch this ? The characters are already made , you'd have to delete any character which used this glitch. Which would be pretty hard to do i think . Not impossible but time consuming .

Another person complaining about Dark Souls, we have been having lot's of those lately.

People can play a game however they want, if they want to use glitches, let them. If people are enjoying the game more because of these glitches, let them have their fun, right? If you think they are missing out because they are using these glitches, jokes on them right?

If the are actually ruining the multiplayer, that's not cool, but what can you do, unless it's patched, people will keep doing it.

He's mostly complaining about the multiplayer aspects . Whih is a pretty big part of the game, the rest of the posts was basically explaining what the glitch is , and the fact it drastically changes to allure of the game , which is true ,
Also, in regards to your closing sentence, people can play what they want.

I don't see how the bottomless box glitch is any worse than people who play through the game on SL1 and then invade people with high end gear in the beginning areas of the game in ng+. Sure you've had the challenge of getting through the game without levelling up, but why on earth should all the unfortunate people you invade in ng+ with your stupidly overpowered character give a damn about your prior accomplishments when you're simply ruining the online components of the game for them?

Bottomless box glitch or not, griefing in Dark Souls is thoroughly boring.

When I invade people I always make sure I have appropriate levelled armour and weapons for the area of the game I am in or I build a strong character with a major weakness for competitors to exploit. I don't always win, but when I do it's usually my skill and experience of the game which nets me the majority of my wins and not whether my Ascended pyromany flame can one shot dem n00bs.

What's the point of me invading people with super amazing equipment which makes me indestructible against lower levelled players when I know I'm always going to win? It's such a boring way to play the game.

The only way you're going to kill a backstabber, is to stab him in the back(Souls mechanic reference not intended).

Wanna defend yourself, glitch away and keep the equipment in hammerspace until someone invades you.

Although I didn't get to fool with the online component. My internet's too sucky to sign into PSN, nevermind keep up with somebody in an online fight.

The key element here is the PvP aspect, I have absolutely no problem with glitching or hacking if it's a singleplayer game, they're allowed to ruin their own experience, just don't ruin everyone else's experience with your cheating.

Bottomless boxers haven't ruined the whole game, but they have ruined the undead burg if you're in human form. I use the glitch all the time just to try different builds and have fun. I don't use it to backstab level 6 people in the burg and be an asshole. Recently I've been taking my level 87 character on ng+ into the burg for some pvp. Every now and then a twinker will show up and often runs away or circles me constantly before being killed, it really is pathetic.

I don't want to see the glitch removed because it adds a lot of fun to the single player aspect. What dark souls really needs is better scaling for regular weapons and less damage for lightning and fire weapons to balance it out a bit overall.

This game is ruined by these glitches and those of you who disagree are the reason I decided to type up this long post. If you dont want a challenge in a game go play Cars 2 or Megamind and stay out of the games that are meant to be challenging...

Hey, congratulations, you've just discovered what happens in every single multi-player game ever. People cheat. They hack. They exploit. And then they use the gains to fuck over other players. Saying it 'ruins' the entire game is a bit hyperbolic, even if you do prefer the multi-player aspect to the purely single-player experience.

I'd say that your invading (relatively) low level players with your level 1 character who's decked out in powerful gear is unfair and 'ruins' the game, see how it works? Just because you got it legitimately doesn't make it any less 'unfair' for the person you're killing, and is there any specific way that you can tell just by being invaded that someone has exploited the glitch? From what I know, there's minimal interaction between players and beyond seeing their gear on them physically you don't get to inspect them or anything. And if you can get the same gear at level 1, how do you know, without a doubt, that these people haven't done it as well?

Your complaining in this thread amounts to about the same thing I'd expect to read on the Blizzard forums over a level 25 character being killed in one-shot by a level 85 character on a PvP realm in World of Warcraft. Yeah, it sucks. But unless they scale level and stats for every single zone (which would be a pretty significant change and take a fair amount of code, potentially breaking other parts of the game) there's very little they can actually do about it.

I don't understand at all how exploiting glitches to give oneself an unfair advantage is fun.

At all.
Greifing is fun, believe me.

Is there a way to talk to people in this game? If not then it wouldn't be nearly as fun to piss them off.

Read the title and my mmochamp "prick" switch kicked in. Nobody is making you use this issue, nobody will think less of you for not doing it. Stop crying and just play the shitting game. This line of thought is the same as what I see in wow arguments every other day
Second. Nobody made you use it, you decided to exploit a glitch, I have no sympathy for you. And yeah, you get a couple of people who use the glitch to get high level equip on low-level chars, and a few people who use it to skip to the higher levels.

1. Why are you doing PvP at low level?

2. At high level, you should have maxed out equip anyway, and so any glitch based advantage they had is gone.
The souls series has an invasion (drop in drop out) multiplayer. They might be in human form looking to be able to summon phantoms (something that can progress certain NPC story lines) and simply get help with a difficult boss. They could also simply be ignorant of what undead and human form do.
I know how the PVP works. Invasions really aren't that common to be a big enough problem to "ruin the game".

Wasn't the bottomless box glitch fixed in a recent patch? It's not on PC, anyway.

The game's easy once you know how to do it. It's only soul-crushing hard the first time through.

That said... I still don't think people should cheat, even on subsequent playthroughs. The fact that they understand the game should make it easy enough.
and Demons Souls had the soul dup glitch fixed before we got it state side

... so ... what are you whining about exactly?

To some extend I would say let people do what the want. The reason I won't do this here is because the Multiplayer aspect of Dark Souls is such a weird one that you can't -really- know if the person you'll end up playing with/against has used this glitch...

The experience is not really ruined for people that don't use this glitch, because you can choose to not summon a co-op phantom to aid you with fights. If you intent on summoning a co-op partner then you already have the goal to finish the chapter/boss fight successfully, rather than having a partner that is ill-equipped for the encounter. So in that way I don't really object. However, I can see my experience being ruined if somebody invaded me and had used this glitch to their benefit, resulting in an unfair fight, then I would say that yes my experience has suffered as a direct result. Especially if a red phantom invades (because they're supposed to be of a lower soul level than you, generally.) the fight was intended to be in your favor, but you'll encounter a guy with unbalanced gear at that Soul level. Yeah that would suck.
As far as I know there's no way to repel any attempt of being invaded (not counting the blue spirits)..

Dark Souls would be around 100x more fun if multiplayer matchmaking were based on the total value (in souls) of a player's gear rather than his/her soul level. There's no good reason why a brand new player making his/her way through the Undead Burg for the very first time should have to suffer +5 lightning weapons and maxed pyromancy.
That. Is. Completely, and totally. Fucking. BRILLIANT! Just one question. Would it use the souls you would get if you fed the item to Frampt or would a separate soul value be set based on the item's stats.

Thank you and your common sense. I'd wish other people would use theirs a bit more often or at least read the damn OP before posting. What people don't understand is that the multiplayer adds something to the game, it's part of the experience you're promised when you buy it. How important it is completely depends on the player.

I was looking forward to invasions and co-op. They add a certain feeling of constant dread, on top of the game's difficulty. Unfortunately, I never got to chance to properly play the way the game was intended to be played. I could not play as a hollow as you miss out on sidequests if you're not human and playing offline meant losing the ability to play co-op.

It's making sacrifices because a shitload of assholes decided it would be fun to prey on new players by exploiting glitches. I had been invaded 8 times before I decided to play offline. 2 of them were legit players that provided a very intense and fun battle. The other 6 completely destroyed me, even though I managed to hit every single one of them like a million times.

Some of them even taunted me by attacking though my shield with their lightning shotels (or whatever) and then just running around me. I managed to kill one of those griever fucks though. He kept chasing me and running around me as an attempt to taunt me. Stupid asshole followed me up to the corner of the platform and I combo-kicked him off of it. That was my last online battle, as I went offline afterwards. I found out the guy had sent me hate-mail for being a noob after I went back online days later.
