I recently brought Dark Souls, and I love it. I've get to sink much time into it (exams), but its already great fun. I have one problem :The Capra Deamon

This thing has now killed me 10 times. I have improved my equipment, levelled up multiple times and cleared every area down to Blighttown. But I can't go further without the spider shield, and for that I need the depths and, for that I need to kill the goat-thing.

Any advice? Like what did you do, what level were you, what profession, did you have help?

Show some mercy to a poor undead wanderer.

Ah yes, the Capra Demon, the Wake Up Call Boss of Dark Souls. He has caused many a headache. Well, the first thing that you're going to want to do is get rid of his dogs. You have no idea how much of a nuisance they can be. Focus on dodging his opening move, run up the stairs behind him, and if you get the chance, kill the dogs. After that, try to whittle him down, block his light attacks and run like hell when he starts winding up for a heavy attack, if you're patient you should be able to take him. He's one of the trickier bosses and I'm not very good at explaining things, so I hope this helps.

Not sure if this will help, but I stripped naked when I fought him. The added mobility was better than being able to take another hit. Also stab him from above the stairs. Go up on the ledge, block him so he falls down and dive stab him.

I can't remember my level though. I'm a warrior. Used a sword and shield. The sword was the katana I got when I killed the trader in the Undead Burg.

I did the same with that asshole Havel. got squashed so many times that I just got naked and danced around him. Didn't hit me once. Though if he had, he would have murdered me.

At the moment I'm hilariously stuck in Sens Fortress but if I ever restart the game I'm totally gonna play through it naked.

I HATE the Capra Demon.
He is actually the boss I struggle the most against in the whole game, and he's not even a full fledged boss.
The real problem with him is just the incredibly confined environment, and the absolutely glitch-tastic nature of the entire fucking room.

One time I recall one of the dogs got stuck in the wall behind a wooden beam, I thought I had the demon beat then the dog unglitched out of the wall behind me and killed me.

Also, I hope you like staring directly at the one, huge as all fuck barren tree in that room because your camera is absolutely in love with that tree. It wants to show it to you, and is very proud of its beautiful tree-wife, so it takes every opportunity to fill 50 - 80% of your screen real estate with that bloody tree.

The absolute key is to kill the dogs without dying. Once you do this, he's actually a really easy boss.

To start, I've found the best way to beat his room is to get up the stairs.
The first thing you should do is get up the stairs. If he gets too close to you while you're up there, you can safely drop down and do a ring around the rosy type thing going up and down.

The dogs are a huge ***** (lol pun) and taking them out has no real science to it, because their behaviour seems erratic every time you enter the room; but it has to be done.

After this, just stay out of range of his really large overhead attack (or dodge it) and just poke him until he dies.

I think that advice is a little situational... I don't know about you, but I get very self-conscious when I'm naked.

OT: Like others have said, try to get up the stairs and kill the dogs first. You can block his quick swings and jumps and whatnot whenever you're above him, just watch out when he's ramping up for a big swing because you'll need to back away. At this point you probably won't have armor that absorbs a lot of damage, so it could be beneficial to equip lighter armor if you're encumbered between 25-50% or over 50%.

If you stand in the far corner after going up the stairs, he'll usually walk up the first few steps and then jump attack you. On the occasions he actually runs all the way up the steps you can just drop back down and put some space between the two of you, every now and then he might get stuck on the tree too.

Yeah, Capra demon himself is surprisingly easy. It's the dogs that make it hard, and even if you're an awesome player, the first 10 seconds of the fight is a pretty random bit of panicking where you might end up stun-locked by the damn dogs. Priority 1 is the damn dogs. The Capra demon has really slow attacks that give you plenty of warning time so he's easy as long as you don't let yourself get backed into a corner.

For melee classes the strategy is get onto the far corner of the stairs kill dogs and perform drop hits.Although you can try tanking him like a bawse with proper timing between hits (lowering and raising the shield) its pretty solid tactic.
For mages got no flying clue

I don't think you need the spider shield. At least, I never needed to. What do you need the shield for?

For the Capra Demon, I ended up using the shield I got off of the knight that turned Hollow after reaching Undead Asylum and a Halberd to just poke at the dogs and the Capra Demon when he got close. Run around the dogs on either side (experiment with which way you want to go) and get up the stairs. Heal, then kill the doggies. Focus on them first and then you can go on against the Capra Demon.

The Capra Demon will wreck you if you don't guard properly and dodge at the right time. He also jumps like a freaking grasshopper, so don't expect him to stay down in the area, while you stay on the stairs. If you have more trouble, just grab a few Firebombs and time the throws to whittle down the Capra Demon's health.

Wish you luck. I beat this guy at my tenth try and it was by pure luck.

First and foremost, don't panic about the 10 deaths thing. It's annoying (many, many of us have been there) but not a big deal. You're getting good advice here: the dogs are the greater threat because they hurt and distract you while the Capra gets in position to take you out. You are better off killing the dogs first. Run up the stairs, get out onto the arch overhang next to the top of the stairs to funnel them at you one at a time, and whack 'em. Capra will still follow and swipe at you, but he'll have a harder time of it. Then either do the falling attack if you can, or be light enough to roll out of the way if you take him on at ground level.

Good luck and keep at it! You'll get him. :)

If you were a good boy and picked the Master Key, which I sure you were, you can actually skip that entire fight by going straight to Blighttown, you don't need the Spider Shield to beat that place, the damage you take from poison is barely a bother, unless you get toxic, but the guys who give you toxic don't respawn, so kill them and get done with it.

Just remember to take a high fire defense shield like the Dragon Crest Shield for the Blighttown boss and you be alright...
If you want to came back later with overpower gear and own the Capra Demon you are free to do so. Just kill the doggies first.

Like everyone else has said so far, kill the dogs first. Once you do that, you're golden. Don't be tempted to try and kill them with magic, if you're able to use magic. Make sure you're on the arch at the top of the stairs before you attack the dogs, otherwise the one will just stunlock you while you're trying to take out the other.
Also, summoning helped me the first time I took the Capra Demon on. The room is small, I know, but if you can hold out until the second person gets inside, they can make a huge difference.

I'm not sure what set of armor your using or what weapon but so this is my only advice.

He is actually really easy to fight toe to toe so if your able to or have the Stone Armor set, use it. if not, At least have any weapon and sword and shield(with 100% physical protection) up to +5. The first attack when you walk in is usually the hardest to dodge, but if you do run to the end. Dogs will get to you first which you need to kill. After that he will chase you down which you can block and head up the stairs to drop stab, or again just fight toe to toe. There is only one attack you need to worry about of his which you can't block(unless you have enough endurance-stability) is when he puts his swords together and swing vertically.

There is lot you can do to make this fight easier but I don't know your familiarity with the game nor the build your aiming for. I can only say the basics to that fight.

The best way is to get up the stairs so you can take out the dogs then fight him alone. On my current playthrough I said "**** you capra demon!" and killed both dogs as well as damaged him with one two handed swing of my ultra greatsword.

But yeah, take the stairs then kill the dogs.

When you enter wait for a second, then dodge right around him and go left up the stairs. Kill whatever dogs follow you and dive down when the Capra Demon gets up there. If the other dog follows you kill it before the Capra Demon gets to you, otherwise run in a long circle and try again. When the dogs are dead the Capra demon itself is very easy, just leave him a wide berth and attack after he attacks you.

Ugh I hated that guy. He tends to kill you in a few seconds. What you need to do is avoid his first attack and run to the stairs. If you manage to kill the dogs then you're golden you won't die as quickly. After that you just need to lure him to the stairs hit him with a firebomb, drop off and then do it again.

I usually keep my shield up and run, roll and make me way to staircase on the left. Run up it. Kill the dogs. Back up and wait for the Capra demon. When he's almost on top you need to hop off the ledge and wait for him to fall. Strike him in the face. Rinse. Repeat.

I did see another do something sneaky. Kill the hydra in darkroot, then the crystal golem in the cave behind it. Restart the game and click on dusk of oolaciles sign on the shoreline. Buy her hidden body spell and the dogs won't see you in combat with the Capra demon.

It's been a bit but I believe I remember the way I beat him. Immediately head for the stairs and try to take a few swipes at the dogs when they get close, but don't let the Capra Demon near you. Once he gets near you, drop down below and if I remember right, he does this jump stabbing deal in an effort to follow you, and he gets stuck for a few seconds. I used that time to get back up the stairs and do a fall jump on him for major damage. Rinse and repeat, making sure you take care of the dogs.

If that wasn't it, then knowing me, I would jump off the stairs once the demon gets close, and since the dogs are faster than the demon, they will come after you first giving you some room to take care of the dogs before the demon arrives again. Once he gets close, rinse and repeat using the stair technique. After the dogs are done, best advice to tell you is to circle and attack him when you see an opening. Hope any of this helps.

Kill the dogs off the bat, then try and get the fight into the middle of the room to avoid the obnoxious camera swivelling.

Then just hang out of range and wait for him to put his swords together and do his power attack thing, then slap him upside the head. Repeat X times.

you can skip the entire fight if you started as thief or took the master key (the only gift imo). you go into the tower with havel, beat the snot out of him, go to darkroot basin then hunt around for a path to valley of the drakes. from there you can get to blighttown, the next area in the game. you kill the capra for a key to the depths, which leads to blighttown so you just have to work around the depths.

for the actual boss, i just go in, run past/dodge his first attack to get up the stairs to the left, then try to bring down the dogs. from there i generally try to stay close so you can circle him to dodge some of the attacks. i find that i can block most of them, except for his really big downwards swing (and maybe his jumping attack, if he has one. been a while since i fought him). just pop at him when you get an opportunity, try to keep your shield lowered until you see him actually winding up (helps stamina regenerate by a lot), wait for him to attack, block or dodge (or, best option, be out of range so he whiffs completely, giving you more time), then chug an estus if you need it.

or you could just be a massive pansy and throw fireballs at him, but the sword and board are the only true way.

addendum: if you're a dexterity-maining class, go down the stairs in firelink to the new londo ruins. look for a corpse with one of the blue loot flames over it, i think it's down the first staircase you come to (not the one in the vase!). this contains the estoc, a rapier-type weapon, which you can attack with from behind your shield. this is incredibly useful in pve, and it looks freaking boss. i used this with the capra and beat him with a fairly underlevelled thief, first try.
