It sounds like the behavior of a cheap controller. You can try one of the programs that make non-official 360 conrollers trick programs into thinking that it's a real one. If not, it might be the mechanics of the controller itself. I use a PS3 controller through MotioninJoy (only for PS3) emulating a 360 one and it works great.
ugh, ive spent hours trying to get montionjoy to work with my ps3 controller but even using tutorial videos on youtube i havent been able to get it working. guess ill just have to suck it up and go to gamestop and pick up a real 360 pad today. if nothing else i can at least return it if the problem still continues. thanks for the help (to you and everyone else)
I wrote a longer, more detailed post earlier when my internet out and I lost it (literally and figuratively), so forgive me if this is very impersonal.
DONT use 0.7.0000, it is for testing and is pracically alpha. I use 0.6.005 .
Pug the controller in, let windows recognize its own driver, then open DS3 helper (motioninjoy). At top, to the left is "driver Manager". Click that, "check" your controller below, then "load driver" below that. Windows might *****, let it and say it's alright to install this.
Go back to "profiles" at top left. You MUST click "Xbox 360 controller emulator" for it to work with Dark Souls, then pink "enable". If "vibration testing" works you're good to go, and can even exit the program to free up resources.
With SMB, They Bleed Pixels, and console ports, if I unplug the controller to check my PS3, then plug it back in, it will work still. With Dark Souls PC, this is not the case, and you can't alt-tab back to the pink "enable" either. In other words (bayonetta heh heh), if it gets unplugged during play, you must exit (Rememeber "END" is the menu key), and click the pink "enable" again. Obviously this isn't an issue if you don't unplug it all the time, but I figured I'd point out the weird behavior of an otherwise wonderful program that prevented me from dropping 40 bucks on a controller I already had. Oh, and why can't the charge cable work for the 360 controller? It's ridiculous.
*Ahem* Anyway, hopefully that offers some help, and please don't hesitate if you have any questions, as helping is the little I can do. Many people use this fine program to use our PS3 controllers for everything on PC, even PS 1/2 games! It should work for you as well.
