Now that some of you have seen the Escapist News Article about Dark Souls, here is some more info I got off of Destructoid: http://www.destructoid.com/dark-souls-the-spiritual-successor-to-demon-s-souls-192993.phtml

?There will be a lot more exploration in Dark Souls, featuring wide open. seamless fields in which to traverse. Anything you see on screen, you can reach. That castle or dungeon in the background? You will get there eventually.
?The game has no map, just a position marker.
?Dark Souls will be as challenging as Demon's Souls. The team wants a game that will be tough, but ultimately rewarding. A sense of achievement is paramount.
?The game will play similarly to Demon's Souls. The plan is to kill you a lot, so you get better.
?Dark Souls is not set in the same world as Demon's Souls, and will have an original story. It will not have the same "hub" format, either, instead featuring a variety of maps connected to a seamless open world.
?Level designs will be more complex.
?Inspired by medieval dark fantasy, contains themes like "high fantasy of kings and knights", "death and the depths of the earth", and "the flames of chaos."
?Players will get a lot more freedom with how they choose to play the game. Character creation will not be class based. The number of spells and weapons will be increased, as will attack animations.
?Co-op and PvP will appear, with online connectivity similar to that of Demon's Souls. Just like the last game, you can watch other players die, and read messages they leave behind.
?No Soul Tendency this time, as the studio doesn't want dedicate servers. Instead the focus will be on "mutual roleplaying", something that will be detailed at another time.

Well if it comes out the same month as Skyrim... Well, I guess Skyrim will have to wait...

Excellent.

I may never complete it. I tend to tire of complete open worlds eventually. But this sounds most intriguing.
I don't think it will be open world like Oblivion, I think it will just be able to just wonder around.

I read this some other place a couple of days ago and I can safely say I'm really, really excited about this. I adore Demon's Souls, it's one of my top three games of all time, despite the fact that it can be frustrating as hell even after getting platinum for it(the only game I ever bothered to do that), when starting a new character. It's all part of the charm, however and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I would make the rewarding gameplay worse if it was removed.

The only real thing that saddens me a little is this:

I quite liked how Soul Tendency worked, yes it was really confusing to start off with, but once you got the hang of it, was quite easy to manipulate. It also made for an interesting gameplay mechanic, at least IMO. Still, I'm confindent that the game will be just as awesome, if not better. I'm looking forward to the challenge, no matter what!

Yeah I agree, Soul Tendency was interesting. It gave another reason to improve and beat the game again to hopefully beat the level without dying.

But odds are this game will be better! I wonder though if their will still be a Demon's Souls 2, since I forgot where. But even after the announcement of Project Dark (now Dark Souls), they said they would be interested in doing a Demon's Souls 2 still.

True, I don't expect Dark Souls to be anything less than spectacular, even without Soul Tendency.

I don't know about Demon's Souls 2, Sony owns the right to the name and universe, as far as I know, so unless they want to develop another exclusive title for the PS3, I don't see it happening. Other than than, I don't actually mind them not doing DS2, since you already saved/doomed the world, depending on your decision. You already killed all the demons and even though there wasn't much in regards to story being told in the game, the worlds and the universe were pretty fleshed out, assuming you looked the right places. The only real thing they could do in DS2 would be the giants to the north and really, I think that should have DLC, if anything for the game, if they had wanted it to be in the game.

Oh, and thanks for the invite to the group!

Your welcome for the group.

I also feel the same, though I can't say I wouldn't want even more Demon's Souls like games. :)

Also yeah, I wish they made the giants in the north DLC. :(

I cannot wait for this game, demon's souls was one of the two games I bought when I got my PS3(the other was MGS4) and demon's souls is still in my library of games (mgs4 isn't) which just shows how much I like the game, possibly my favorite part of the game was the Old Monk boss, with an internet connection it was truly a unique experience to have an actual person play as the boss of a level.

Old Monk was awesome. I loved being the boss. XD

I hope the character models are better this time around, with character creation and customisation being more detailed.

I actually really enjoyed the Hub system in Demon's Souls. It's one of the few things I feel they got right. I'm glad they are getting rid of that stupid world tendency BS, it was never even explained in the game! You have to use a freaking guide on the web if you want to figure out what the crap it even does.

Also I really really really hope that more spells means more actual spells. I hated how there was basically just AoE DOOM SPELLS, Straight line damage spells and Demon's Prank. Demon's Prank was the most original and awesome spell in that game by the way.

I hope they actually explain things also. I mean if you played through that game and didn't look up anything online there is almost no chance that you would figure out how to craft souls into weapons.

And if they have gender specific clothing I will tear their faces off. Seriously that was the dumbest thing ever! "Hey here's a really freaking awesome really good set of armor... that you are not allowed to use because you are playing as a female character! LAWLZ!" Screw that.

All in all Demon's Souls was a great game that was just plagued with so many little things that made it a horrible experience. I loved it up until the point where everything became so arbitrary and repetitive. Here's hoping this is a great game that learns from Demon's Souls mistakes.

Yeah, it was hard to make a normal looking character.

Nope, getting both a PS3 and Xbox360 release, hence the name change to Dark Souls instead of Demon's Souls, since Sony owns the rights to the name and universe for Demon's Souls.

EDIT: Looks good, but I can't understand why they wouldn't bring something like this to the PC. I would think the control scheme would feel a lot more natural there.
From Software is mainly a Console Developer, I checked on their wiki page and they only ever made 1 game for the PC.

So they might not be very experienced with it. Plus they might not bring it to PC because, PC gamers would want hotkeys like all RPGS for PC have and Dark Souls would be too easy with a hotkeys.

Also the gameplay while it might look it, might not work so well for PC. Demon's Souls worked wonders with the controller.

Nothing against the PC (most of my games are on there.)
