Alright, think of a game you played that isn't very "dark" or "depressing", but have something to do with it that is dark.

For example, pokemon black.

Yeah, we all know how Pokemon is like Cock fighting, but I just caught a pokemon called "Yamask" and apparently it used to be human, carries a mask of its human face, and will sometimes cry when it looks at it.

Pretty sad.

I always thought there was something sinister about those freaky little flying faces in Kirby.

Pikmin: Whenever one of them dies. Seriously, if I need some help supporting the argument that video games can stir emotions, I bring up Pikmin. Seriously.

I remember doing a deep analysis of pikmin once.

That one scene in Portal 2.

The part where you have to press the stalemate associate button for the first time. Switching control of the facility to Wheatley instead of GLaDOS. The scene depicting this sets all the lights away from the center off and sets the light in the middle to a deep crimson. GLaDOS screems for mercy over what is taking place. Overall, creating a very dark mood.

The villains in the second and third Paper Mario are pretty dark if you ask me. Thousand Year Door dealt with a demon that wanted to possess Peach. Super Paper Mario had both a spurned lover (along the lines of Romeo (quarreling families/races)) and a textbook sociopathic henchman (Dimentio).

Really? Well, I'd love to see it. Pikmin was one of those games that either made me really happy and then really sad within an hour.

Oh, and I thought of another one: Katamari is the most colorful armageddon ever.

There was an indie game I played. It was called The Devil's Tuning Fork. It was one of my first games that I played on my gaming PC. The story was hauntingly sad, children going to sleep and not waking up until the player rescued them. But it was still light-hearted, even in the complete darkness of the game.

Not sure if I can find it, but it talked about how Olimar was like the Pikmin's god and he had saved them from extinction. He sadly had to leave them, but taught them how they could survive themselves. And then sadly, Pikmin 2 isn't too deep, but it could be seen as a metaphor for how even strange and new environments like the pikmin world can be exploited for monetary gain.

And You're so right about Katamari

I'm just gonna make the [a href=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/UnfortunateImplications/VideoGames]devil's link[/a] and [a href=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CerebusSyndrome]call it good[/a].

The game was pretty serious as a whole i still found the part in fallout 3 when you leave that guy trapped in a computer by himself for eternity to be really messed up.

Definitely Katamari. Picture this: you're walking around town, minding your own business when HOLY SHIT YOU'RE CRUSHED BY A GIANT STICKY BALL MADE UP OF EVERYTHING YOU'VE EVER KNOWN AND LOVED. You are then killed, making the very thing that killed you and destroyed everything you know even bigger and more powerful.

Hm. That's an interesting way of looking at it. You have just brought Pikmin into a whole new light for me. Thank you, good sir.
[sub][sub](And I actually found your analysis for Pikmin 2 to be pretty funny. A looot of product placements in that game. XD)[/sub][/sub]

Agreed.
That part of the game was surprisingly dark, even for Portal standards.

I was playing Mrs. Splosion Man when I realized that not only am I destroying a very expensive and highly advanced technology with probable crucial research data whenever I get a chance, but I'm also constantly murdering hundreds of innocent scientists by blowing off their limbs. The only reason this isn't rated M is because they show an assortment of meats coming out of the scientists instead of blood. D:

If you changed the graphical style and played as a scientist, you could turn (Mrs.) Splosion Man into a survival horror game.

I have the exact same feelings.

I also feel bad for the scientists when the just stop running and cower in fear, or even prey. Pretty sad.
