I wasn't very keen on the second one. The free-running mechanics were a bit finicky and the combat wasn't even nearly as fun as the first (y no parrying?!). The dungeon design didn't feel as good, either, the puzzles were a lot less interesting. It wasn't a bad game, but it didn't hook me like the first did.

Still, the first game was one of my favourites of the 7th generation so more should still be a good thing!

DS1 was good, and DS2 was a fucking blast. I was so very sad to see the series apparently end on a cliffhanger when THQ went down the plughole, so this piece of news is welcome indeed. Here's to hoping Nordic can keep up the level of quality Vigil established.

After the second game... why?
I mean it seems like I'm in the minority here but I thought 1 was a pretty good game, had some potential for some fun expansions and probably wouldn't fall flat on it's arse. Then 2 came along and just hurled out any kind of potential that series had, stomped on it and made me never want another to exist.

But hey maybe this one will be good. Not hopeful to be honest.

That's cool, I guess. The first one was a fun Zelda-esque romp. The second one was more like a weird Diablo/Prince of Persia hybrid and fucking garbage on PC.

There was parrying in DS2. In a round about way, only this time you perform parries by timing a perfect dodge (and buying a certain ability). Yes it was odd and took some getting used to, but it kind of made sense as Death is going for the agile theme, while War is a chunk of unfeeling metal and muscle.

On topic however, yes! This is great news! DS1 and DS2 built up wonderful lore and universe between them! I sincerely hope they go with the Horsemen vs Angels and Demons and Council route that DS1 and 2 hinted at. If DS1 is the first one, and DS2 is a roundabout prequel. DS3 would be a marvellous sequel to move the franchise forward!

I do hope the series makes a comeback at some point. I was OK with the first game, but the second one was really great to play through. It would be a shame if the series never got a solid conclusion.

I loved both games. The ending of the first got me so stoked for the sequel, which in turn delivered on every level (except changing two of the Horsemen from Pestilence and Famine to Strife and Fury).
Originally Strife (Mercy Pistol), Fury (Abyssal Chain) and Death (Scythe) were meant to make appearances throughout the first game to give War one their weapons. Though for whatever reason they were cut.

I don't know, when they decided to change up the Four Horsemen to remove Famine and Pestilence, they removed two potential characters with what could have been possibly very fun and/or interesting gameplay mechanics.
I would guess the biggest reason for the changes would be that there isn't a lot you can do with Famine's or Pestilence's weapons and powers of choice in a hack and slash game. Admittedly a Bow would have been interesting (though probably harder to incorporate into a Hack-Slash combat system) and although I'm sure it could have been used mechanically for something I'm not sure how you are supposed to use weighing scales as a weapon.
This is disappointing to me. I would have preferred for them to say "we have to get creative, not "contrived," when coming up with how these weapons are going to be used. From what you're saying it sounds as if someone said "Scales? WTF are we supposed to do with that?" Then someone else answered "I don't know, but we have a deadline to me. No time to figure it out so let's just change the Horsemen." Better than shoehorning in crappy play mechanics just to "keep the theme," yes. But they should have had this planned out since the original game, considering the way it ended. The horsemen are major characters in the story. While they wouldn't have had every detail planned out, they should have had some tentpoles: "This is War, this is Death, Famine, and Pestilence. End on a cliff hanger, and figure out the rest later. Whoop! Painted into a corner...time to change 2 of em."

If they make the next game about to the female horseman (horsewoman?) Then I'll mail my mkney directly to Nordic.

At least it's not dead!

That's something. I cannot seem to fathom how will the next Darksiders sequel be without the studio that created the first two, but I am hopeful.

Woo-hoo! I've been waiting for some news along these lines. I'd really like to see another DS game. I heard that had THQ not gone under, Vigil intended to make DS3 a 4-player co-op. Certainly hope that's the path they end up following.

2nd woo-hoo!!!!

I loved the Darksiders games, my hope is that they make a lot more of this one take place on earth, like the first one, (I thought the ravaged earth setting was way more interesting than the settings of Darksiders 2) but keep the vastly better combat, items, and character upgrade system of the 2nd one.

A little bit fewer fetch quests, and this game will be golden.

Definately game for more Darksiders. Not sure where it plans on going though.
If #2 is any example, I'd assume 3 and 4 are based around Strife and Fury.

No.. please. Never do this.

I know tradition is a stupid thing, but that would be like remaking King Lear as Princess Lear. You know it would just end up being a skinny athletic woman in a platemail bikini, and if thats all you want I'm sure there is plenty rule 63 of Death out there already.

I really wanna see Fury, too. Not for the fanservice, but there is just so much POTENTIAL for a whip-centric character in an explore/open world area. Especially when it's a magical, possibly semi-sentient whip. grabing onto things to swing is just the beginning...you've got coiling it to make things spin, yanking stuff to you for an off-hand attack...depending on how the whip works, using it to ascend cliffs/etc...

I think this just made my day. Like literally, I have been heartbroken ever since I heard about Darksiders getting bought up when THQ went under and then stuck on the dusty back shelf. But there may be hope yet!

Yes, this is good news. I never quite understood why the Darksider games never did that well, as I enjoyed them a lot.
I do think that Darksiders 1 was better than 2, though. Not because of the combat or mechanics, but because of the apocalyptic setting. Dungeons that combined both the elements of fantasy and modern times, set in libraries, garages, and town squares. It really felt as if the world had been conquered by demons.
In darksiders 2, however, while the environments were more varied and colorful, they weren't as relatable. There are only so many dark fantasy castles I can explore before they all feel the same.
I do agree with you but I also feel that for what it was, the setting was a good fit to the second game. No dungeon REALLY operated in the same way other than the dungeon archetype "go to this wing and find the switch that helps you get to the final Boss." But it was Death's trek across the realms in order to save his dear brother and come to terms with what he did to his kin. Maybe other people aren't super in to the story line since it isn't super intense compared to some games but I rather enjoyed travelling the grandiose settings and inevitably screwing it all up without remorse for War's sake.

And I just really want to see what was in those comets
