Following news that Disney has bought the rights to the lucrative sci-fi franchise and plans to make at least three more movies, industry insiders say the evil Vader will grace the big screen again.

?He?s an integral part of the franchise. Replacing him is virtually impossible,? explains a film mole. ?The plan is for him to return and play a significant role in the new films.?

Former bodybuilder turned actor David Prowse donned the black body armour in the original three films but the character was voiced by James Earl Jones.

Actor Hayden Christensen, who starred in the subsequent Star Wars prequels, was the last actor to appear in the suit following his character Anakin Skywalker?s descent to the Dark Side.

Writer Michael Arndt is already working on the new Star Wars scripts. Fellow old favourites Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia ? played by Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher ? have already been tipped to reprise their respective roles.

He?s an integral part of the franchise. Replacing him is virtually impossible
While Vader seemingly met his end in the 1983 film The Return Of The Jedi it seems this will not stop his comeback. ?This is science fiction remember,? we?re told. ?Darth Vader will rise from the ashes.?
So yeah... Darth Vader is coming back. Not sure how they are going to do this since he was burned and is very very dead by the end of 'Return of the Jedi' but I suppose someone could take up the suit and name but not be Anakin. What are your thoughts?

I very much doubt that he will 'return' as such, I'm pretty sure the most that will happen is he will show up fairly frequently as one of those blue ghost things. Or I guess your idea of someone masquerading as him works too, but then its not exactly him. I think they are just pulling this out of their asses to create some hype/excitement.

This news only lead me to believe they will set the film in this timeline (I don't know the whole plot but just the synopsis)-
It set into the far future and the main character is Cade Skywalker. In his youth he was a Jedi padawan however in that current setting, he is a bounty huner (don't know the reason for the change of career).
Anyway he show relucdent to return to be a Jedi and that the ghost of Vader did appear before him somewhere in the story. Vader warn him not to make the same mistake as he did.

Or the worst case, of course, would be that they decide to completely ignore anything done by the EU in the past few decades and go with an original storyline.

I think this is the most appropriate use of the picture ever.

This is the chance to create a whole new iconic character but nooo, you just had to have Vader back, didn't you?
Also, what about established Extended Universe contend with the New Empire and all that? A lot of fantastic storylines there.

This is the Daily Express. They have talking out of their collective arse down to a fine art.

If it is true however, I guess the Disney guys are just monumental fucktards.

Honestly I'm more concerned about Hamill, Ford, and Fisher reprising their roles. I like Mark, but he IS the Joker for me. Ford IS Indiana Jones. Fisher IS talentless and unlikable. Not too mention all 3 haven't exactly aged gracefully.

I don't think ANY actor needs to be tapped to reprise a role from 30 years ago, especially when they were coked up for most of it. One reason they still retain most of their appeal in those roles is because of how low the bar was dropped with the prequels. Did you know that Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan) was disgusted with the films? He considered them utter nonsense and hated that young people would waste so much time with it. Supposedly he changed his mind in his later years, but I'm pretty damn sure the three actors mentioned have done everything they could to get as far away from Star Wars as their contracts allowed.

Now, assuming the rumor is true, can anyone honestly believe that its going to be anything other than one more giant pay check for any of them?

The franchise has sunk pretty far as it is. I can't imagine any of them has the desire or the capability of resurrecting the series into a new glory.

If I were the writer, I would get as faaaaaar away from any known characters and periods as I possibly could. I would start at the VERY beginning, with the first Jedi and Sith like that one episode of the TV show.

Or, if I DIDN'T want to make a boring movie I'd go into the future so far that almost nothing is recognizable. I would have it be actual sci-fi with technology that is actually so far in advance of what we NOW consider possible that it will stir up a new generation to dream bigger. I don't want a mediocre cash grab that sets up for a pay off two movies later.

I want each of the new movies to be great in their own right. I want plots that are completely original so that people that are HUGE into the lore or have read all the EU books CAN'T spoil ANYTHING. For the first time in 30 years we have NEW Star Wars, and we hopefully WON'T already know who kills who, and how, and where, etc.

I want the new movies to set the freaking bar for special effects and storytelling, to be an example to the world that Hollywood can actually still make great compelling movies. Its probably been at least a year since I've seen a new movie. Many more since I saw a great one.

I hear good things about Cloud Atlas though. Sadly its mostly related to the make up effects and not the writing.

I write all this not as a die hard fan of Star Wars. In fact I actually derived more enjoyment from the Family Guy and Robot Chicken episodes inspired by them. I know that reflects poorly upon my taste to many, but honestly looking at what they have done and failed to do with such an awesome property over the last 30 years aren't you excited to see what some new blood can accomplish?

I can't say I'm pleased to hear this, perhaps this could work but it seems more like an excuse to cram in an iconic character rather than write a good story...

Retcon Vader's death?
I pray that's a rumor (the source appears to be a tabloid, so it probably is).
Retconning a central character arc to the original trilogy because you can't be arsed to create your own villain? Shameless. Lazy. Exploitative.

If that's true, then I now know with absolute certainty why Disney bought the Star Wars franchise.
Story? Pah! The only story here is the real life story of the pile of greenbacks Disney is going to collect from Vader merchandise!

Personally, I have every doubt that they would honestly pluck one of the many side stories from the EU and remake them in film format, and on a deeper level, I almost don't want them to. I was hoping they would start the new trilogy completely fresh with new characters, locales, and stories and simply make reference to the previous characters, and that may still come with this news. Vader making an appearance does not mean they will reopen Anakin's long-closed story.

However, if they make Vader an integral part of the story, I will disappointed. Vader's story is finished. It's done. Stop kicking the poor bastard out of his grave to make song and dance just because you don't know how else to market your film without the most iconic character being front and center.

Let's be straight here: Avengers was a success because the people who made it love the source material. They understand and identify with it, but they were not tied down to it. While money is certainly the penultimate goal here, they understood that making a great and original film was also a priority so that it would please everyone rather than just appeal to the lowest common denominator.

In the case of Star Wars, capitalizing on Vader as the most recognizable icon in the Star Wars universe is appealing to the lowest common denominator. So yes, Disney, go ahead and have a Vader cameo or a simple allude to the previous trilogies, but be smart about it. For all our sakes.

Well derp.

If it isn't a ghost style return then it'll be crap.

The guy died in front of his son and then got cremated, he isn't 'just resting' or'they never found the body' HE IS DEAD.

You were off to a good start Disney, but if you do this you might as well chop the Star Wars franchise into bloody pieces and feed them to the dogs.

If they really plan on (literally) bringing back a rotting corpse, all it's gonna do is stink up the movie.

You remember how the prequels ended up by cashing in on Vader's iconic status?

No, don't mess with his character-arc, and it's conclusion. There's no need to bring him back.

Is what I would say if the prequels hadn't already done so much damage to his character. As it is, meh, can't be that bad.

I... I...

-.-

If he suddenly comes back to life again as a sith, it will completely ruin the ending of episode VI, since he was no longer evil. The only thing they could do that would be moderately acceptable would be to make him a ghost or an impostor, and either way, it'd feel forced (Oh, god that was awful) if they make him a major character.
