i fully agree with him. there is a TON of negativity and bias towards sony and the ps3 and everyone is like "omg the 360 is teh best", the Escapist is even part of this bias as well.

the only reason i can honestly think of this is cause m$ is american and sony is japanese. if you look at quality control of the products, the 360 makes a fail pile that rivals mount everest and sony is a small hill in comparison, not to mention that the ps3 is outselling the 360.
Really? That is the best you can come up with? MS is American and Sony is Japanese so we are all racist against the Japanese even though if it wasn't for them we wouldn't be playing on consoles to begin with. It has nothing to do with exclusives or exclusive DLC or even the price point. Can't be anything to do with the confusion of this one has B.C. but not that. Then let me ask you this why in the last gen did Sony kick ass and take names while MS tried to eat the few table scraps left behind? And while we are at it why is a Japanese console nuking both of them? Give me a break!

I will say one thing about Sony: they have generated the most fanboys of any of the big three. Dedicated Sony fans are more disconnected with reality than any sports fan or political activist you will ever find. They even have the Cult of Mac beat at their own game. They refuse to admit that the PS3 has problems, they refuse to admit that Sony is in last place when it comes to sells, and they refuse to admit that Xbox Live really is worth the $50 a year.

Plus, they look for any reason to make Sony the victim and Microsoft (or Nintendo) the big, bad, evil corporate entity.

Thank you, David Jaffe, for dropping fresh bananas into the monkey pen.
I own a 360 and I think the PS3 dropped a turd in the punch bowl, yet I don't think XBL is worth 50 bucks a year. Call me old fashioned but I want to play multiplayer on my PC, not my goddamn console.

But... Amerocentrism? Are you high? Seriously? Here's why the PS3 is unpopular- It had a flat and expensive opening. Thats it. Is that the case anymore? Of course not, or so you all keep telling me, the PS3 has tasty titles (some of which) i'm watching, and as you all say (like there's a camp somewhere...), "we flip the 6 in 2006 and get '09"- the PS3 is much cheaper now.

But does that matter? No. No it doesn't. Thats the market. The market is not logical- the market is dictated by the wildebeast instinct of a million stupid consumers. Xbox 360 set itself up as 'the winner' because of Sony's poor start and that was it. Sony will likly never overcome the gap in this generation.

Also, Blu-Ray is shit and their advertising sucks.

I'm not criticizing the Escapist here, but this man is NOT news worthy. What makes him think he is? Get an edgy vocabulary and anyone will listen to you. Worked for Yhatzee, and he's not a professional developer on the same level as Jaffe.
I've been under the impression that this is a gaming website, and that vocalizations from numerous creative minds in the industry deserved a bit of time to share their thoughts. I also disagree about the vocabulary statement there. I find myself ignoring people the more they swear.

PS3 fans are all over this story as proof of the Microsoft conspiracy to destroy Sony, which it's not. The "bigger picture" is that if he had turned the same questions around on Microsoft, Jaffe and every Sony fan would have seen it as an excellent line of questioning aimed at taking down the "evil" Microsoft. Yes, this is biased, but we shouldn't give him a cookie for noticing it. We should spurn him for promoting the conspiracy theories.
I find it funny that you don't think a company is trying to out-compete a competitor.

Also, me thinks you hide behind a white monolith with the black one no where on the horizon.

dude seriously ps3 tripped and stumbled its start, it was not what Sony was hoping for, but they running, now not sprinting, but not stumbling either. they are back on track to do well, all these x-bots slamming the ps3 are flatout wrong.

Good luck finding someone that is not biased out there! I don't know about the rest of you but I don't watch MSNBC because they report on fake news. If apple joined the console race? Well then they would make a news network as well, to bad ABC is already taken.

Won't happen. Apple tried to break into the console market years ago with the Bandai-co-branded Pippen [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandai_Pippin], and it dudded. Hard. (Hard enough that most folks don't know they ever tried.) As with the Newton's flame-out, Apple doesn't seem to revisit their out-and-out failures.

(Though if the iPhone keeps transmogrifying, they might end up with something resembling a decendant of the Newton...)

really? something tells me that both Atari and Mattel are American companies and i do believe so was Coleco

the Japanese came late to the party on that one

oh and there's tons of previous examples of American trying to push it's product over one made better by a foreign company, look at the car market

It has nothing to do with exclusives or exclusive DLC or even the price point. Can't be anything to do with the confusion of this one has B.C. but not that. actually if you want to look at worldwide sales it goes like this

wii
ps3
360

it's america where it's being pumped up and saying how much it's kicking ass, when in reality it's only doing well in 1 market, so yes the 360 does have some things the ps3 doesn't and the ps3 has stuff the 360 doesn't

How about you read Jaffe's actual response?

He admited himself, PS3 has problems, he could be wrong about the reporter, maybe he's flying off the handle a bit too quickly.

The questions the reporter wanted Jaffe to answer were pretty biased to ask someone who's only developed for one console.

And way to generalize anyone with a PS3. I'm PS3 Fanboy #2 in the UF (United Fanboys), and I can easily admit the PS3 has made some mistakes. It's just when people completely blow the mistakes out of proportion (partially shown by this reporter) is when it gets steamy.
I did read Jaffe's response. All of that talk of "I coudl be wrong" was just insurance. We know how he really feels.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't consider you a fanboy. My definition of a fanboy is somebody who both defends the indefensible and is unwilling to admit the flaws of their chosen obsession.

I will say to you what I always say in this situation - you have no idea of the company you keep.

http://www.youtube.com/user/MarkMatthewz

This guy is at a level of fanatacism above anything replicable - it is not a joke.
Yes I do, actually; and I'm no Microsoft fanboy. Anybody who is needs only to be told four words (Red Ring of Death) to lose any argument they ever get into about the supremely awesome invulnerability of the 360.

Ah, then you havn't been reading around and seeing my posts now have you? ;P

Jaffe is saying "I could be wrong" for assurance and to admit that he could be flying off the handle.

And I think he's in full position to be a "fanboy". The questions the reporter asked were completely biased to someone who's only developed for that system. For example, you don't ask Silicon Knights (whatever their name was) about Too Human saying "Too Human had lackluster praise, do you really think it's wise that you should continue the trilogy?" and "The combat system was not well received by critics and gamers alike, do you intend to change up the system?" that's just bad journalism.

They did, once. The results were...lackluster.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Pippin

However, if Apple were to join the console race now (and I mean really join the console race: not just slap some games on a iPod and make the screen touch-sensitive and call it a "dedicated gaming console"), they would be more capable of hanging in there. And if they do join the console race then, Jesus Christ at a hamburger stand, the Mac fanboys will never shut up.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I use a MacBook and find OSX superior to Windows in just about every way, but I'm also working on building my own Windows PC and I don't view Apple as the Monolithic Elder God that your typical Mac user does. A fanboy I am not.

No, I haven't been reading your other posts. I apologize. I forgot I posted here, have not been following the thread, was on this morning, noticed I had some quotes, and took it from there.

I half-way agree with you about your definition of bad journalism. It's not bad journalism to ask honest, stimulating questions. It is, however, poor tact to phrase them in such a way as you illustrated. Granted, poor tact is part of bad journalism, but poor tact alone does not bad journalism make.

In other words: yes, you do ask Denis Dyack if continuing the Too Human trilogy is a good idea. Yes, you do ask him if the combat system in Too Human should be overhauled. No, you don't point out that the game had mixed reviews when you do so.

For the record, I want the Too Human trilogy to be completed. I rather liked the game.

Yep you are right the PS3 has sold more consoles. So why is MS beating them in software sales? How many of said sales were because the PS3 is the cheapest Blu Ray player on the market? As for Atari and Coleco they died a slow and painful death. If not for the NES the game market would have gone with them. Nintendo swooped in and saved the day.

I want the PS3 to do well. And to do well they need games. More than 4 exclusives that appeal to the vast majority (and 1 that appeals to me personally).

Fair points, and I'll agree to most of them, but points must be made for the sake of it!

I'm not saying that the journalist shouldn't ask Jaffe about the condition of the PS3, but when you put in plainly obvious opinions of something (like "lackluster reception" for one example") then that is bad journalism.

If the journalist had put something on a more factual base, like saying "The Ps3 hasn't been selling amazingly well, so what do you think will pump it back in the race?", then this would be avoided.

So, I guess I agree with you through and through. Some argument this turned out to be! >_< (I kid, I kid)

I mean, I'd rather not, but hey: I aim to please.
