Of course PC gaming will never die out. Between indie gamers who aren't big enough to crack the console market and Blizzard's license to print money, mankind will be gaming on computers well into the future.

Every time I see an article about PC gaming's imminent demise, I wonder why they can't devote those blank column inches to something constructive, like the scribblings of an 8 year old on acid or a video of Cliffy B being punched in the back of the head. This is coming from a guy who's only PC gaming experience in the last year has been Armageddon Empires, simply because it runs on the corporate laptop and beats reading on public transport.

you had me until 'microtransactions'. Microtransactions make gaming more expensive than the traditional Game + Expansion packs when you add up total costs, and the companies are loving it. Remember when DLC was free when Live! first came out? now we're paying for stuff thats witheld from games and released 2-3 weeks down the line like with Mirror's Edge, or 2 bucks for small things like the infamous 'horse armor'. We would have paid for weapons that should have been in the Bad Company release if there wasn't a boycott organized.

No. No Microtransactions. Here, read this:
http://trustygamer.com/tg/home/industry-thoughts/microtransactions-need-to-be-banned/
I'm also someone who hates micro transactions, however I realize that if companies were to adopt such a business model they would need more income then that provided by in game advertising if they were to recoup money they would have seen from a retail release. However what I do like about micro transactions (when done correctly so that they are not 'required' or give other players an advantage in gameplay) is that they are optional. I would go through a game happily without paying one penny whereas another may go through and spend lots on customizing their character to look more unique, which is appealing to me because I don't have to pay anything for the game.

Too bad console kiddies aren't bright enough to figure this out.
Too right.
I was explaining the concept of a mod to a PS3 gamer only the other day:

"You mean, they're like, free?"

"Yes."

"And they're like, practically a whole game?"

"Yes."

"Yeah but PS3 has better graphics."

+facepalm+

Well, that is true, what do developers do when porting to pc?

Add Graphics.

The mouse is easier to use and the PC is cheaper to upgrade.

The thing about playing games on a PC is that it can be a more intimate than a console game can ever be. You PC can be an set up and run exactly the way you want it, it can ever evolve to keep getting better. The PC can be modded, styled, and set to play just how and individual likes. Key mapping and such. While console games are great and all, the player is playing with someone else's tools and how someone else wants them to. The PC can be closer, its just comes down to how much effort you want to put in or how much you really care about it.

Yea i think we have in several different parts of the forum discussed about every aspect of piracy and it effects and with that we have come to some solid points that being one of them.
Wait, piracy? Oh, right, the 'piracy will cause the end of PC gaming' bullshit, right? Meh, they can predict the end of PC gaming all they like. In the meanwhile, I'll be playing Insurgency and all the other mods I can find.

DOW2 will be great apart from the balance issues that have plagued it since the frist expansion - they need to hire DOWpro team they make DOW outstanding.

Reasons PCs will never die:

Consoles are just slowly evolving into them, i mean a 360 IS a pc dumb down for easy use.

pc will always be around is because of upgrades. Intel have a policy of bring out a new tech within 12 month - something they have done for the last four years. So pcs will always out preform a console no matter what.

Programmers and the 3 little hackers. Their all the same thing depending on what they happen to be doing at the time. But Independent games and companies can't cut their teeth without it. It's the creative breath of games.

Someone mentioned free games with inhouse adverts -NCsoft do this already Exteel! like blowing up big robots - go try it and it's great real 3person shooter. like every industry they don;t like it when they have to think about changing to new ideas for revenue stream but they will get the idea.

AND finally because FPS' should be played with a Mouse and keyboard as GOD intended!

And that dear people is why I am going to purchase DoWII the moment it is released. Well that and the fact that I know the Dawn of War series kicks ass, well excluding Soulstorm but that got its bastard developer shut down so thats okay even tho they did take the easy way out and blamed piracy...
*Sets aside $$ for Relic to collect whenever they please then pirates and deletes Spore numerous times just to piss off EA*

*edit* curlycrouton whats even better is when people (such as this one person on this very forum) claim that pirated games are missing things. They cannot accept that its the full game and seem to believe that half of its content just up and magically disappeared.
Theres a huge difference between copied and ripped.
Now that depends, All the rips I know of are of the full game, The things thats usually ripped are extra languages apart from english.
