DayZ Screens Move Into the City

DayZ developer Dean Hall doesn't want gore for gore's sake.

Last time the DayZ screenshots focused on a random village [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/120140-DayZ-Screenshots-Show-Off-Working-Village] on the outskirts, but this time it's all about the urban environment. It may look a little clean at the moment, but that's only because the developer is still polishing the basic textures and gameplay before getting the environments grungy. But not too grungy; development head Dean Hall doesn't want his zombie apocalypse game to focus on gore for gore's sake.

"Overall we believe the experience should have a style more akin to The Road [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escape-to-the-movies/1105-The-Road] rather than gore," Hall said. In fact, if you should spot a spatter of blood spray, it's more likely to have been caused by a player than put there on purpose. "This way, we believe what happens in the world matters," said Hall, "instead of simply adding some crashed buses and blood everywhere."

These particular screens have added significance for Hall, as the environments come from a new map created by the Bohemia Interactive employees currently interned in Greece [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/120111-Greek-Turmoil-Delays-Bohemia-Interactive-Spy-Trials] on espionage charges. "Ivan [Buchta] was a big fan of DayZ," said Hall, "and the key architect behind the original Chernarus map - so we're excited to get the map back out into everyone's use."

DayZ is currently aiming for a December launch [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/119848-DayZ-Standalone-Will-Hit-Retail-by-Years-End].

Anyone know if they're fixing the controls for the game for this new release? I'd play DayZ but I've already played with Arma II before the mod came out and the controls were like being randomly told to fly a spaceship.

I think the standalone is using the same engine as Arma II/III, so it seems likely that the controls will be similar, however they may still streamline them for DayZ. I'm not sure.

Sounds interesting, though I wonder how long will player made damage stay? Will a blood stain caused by some guy getting shot stay on the wall for as long as the server is up, or will it disappear after a few minutes/hours/days?
Also, I thought there was a article online that said the Day Z was to be released in November.

On second look, the article says end of November to near Early December, never mind.

Will the zombies be less jerky in the stand alone game? Controls I can deal with, low graphics I can deal with, but jerky enemies in a bug ridden game I can't.

Problems with the engine. The Virtual Reality engine is very powerful in what it can do, but it suffers from some of simplest, if not hilarious bugs.

Give it time, it's always being updated. I remember when ArmA II first released, AI walking through walls was a huge issue. Hell, it was an issue up until last year, when an AI overhaul was released.

But, we still experiance bugs like
