Or renumbering, re-imagining, whatever the hell they're calling it now. It's been several months since the announcement of "The New 52", how do you feel this will change the DC universe and the standing of digital comics in general. What new Title's and Writers/Artist pairs are you excited for and what do you think is a terrible idea. If you have any questions about DC universe or what it will be after September, I'm a knowledgeable little comic nerd.

EDIT: Seems the relaunch is gaining traction http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2011/08/17/super-hero-fans-expected-to-line-up-early-as-dc-entertainment-launches-new-era-of-comic-books/

I think it's getting more and more obvious that DC are floundering against Marvel. OK, they're got the upper hand when it comes to video-games, but if it wasn't for Nolan's Batman series DC movies would be dead in the water. Green Lantern was fucking awful from head to toe, and the Justice League film seems like an extremely bad Idea considering they've just spent the past 7 years making realistic Batman films, only to have him team up with an alien, a man in an alien suit, another alien, an Amazonian and a God. I probably won't watch the Superman reboot because I think Superman is a completely 1-dimensional character.

Then you look at Marvel. They release decent films most of the time, they've got a much larger roster of well-known heroes to work with, most of them with complex back-stories. They know how to do special effects (most of the time), and most importantly they haven't minced the continuities too badly; the X-Men series is a bit fudged up now that First Class basically ignored the original trilogy (despite the fact it was meant to lead into it), but they've worked well on weaving the Avengers together, as opposed to DC who have made their heroes really standalone characters and then expect to be able to throw them together just like that.

The thing is, aside from Batman, DC's roster is just bland and uninteresting. Marvel have literally hundreds of characters to work with in their comics, and they usually do, but while DC have a decent amount of heroes, they only ever use Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter and Aquaman.

This whole reboot of the entire universe reeks of 'desperate attention-seeking' to me, and judging by the looks of it, a fair amount of people think so too.

One of the main reasons I dislike the main DC/Marvel universes is because they're a massive 60 year snarl of continuity, retcons, reretcons dimension and time traveling. Also the companies inability to actually kill off or seriously injure their heroes and villains removes any kind of tension in the stories.

So, I'm actually pretty excited about this reboot and will probably pick up the first few issues of Batman and maybe a couple others that catch my eye. I doubt that they'll have the balls to actually do big things in their stories, but at least I get to see things from the beginning than feel like I'm missing a few decades of history whenever I read them. When are these coming out anyway?

I'm excited and angry at the same time. I'm excited at the new stories but Angry at the fact I have no pre-exsiting DC history to fall back on.

I am on the other-hand, want the HELL out of this.

I agree with you mostly. I feel as thought just lately, In the past 10-15 years or so Marvel has been beating DC quietly, but now in the wake of Crap heap that was GL, all the interesting ideas coming from the Avengers movie universe, and DC's recent drop in general quality, its become more blatant. In my opinion, DC's "Big Six" characters are such wonderful well rounded characters that have had giant sh**s taken all over them since the original JLA cartoon days. Since the early 2000's "Marvel Renaissance" Marvels been pumping out quality, innovation, and change. Nolan's first two Batman films are both in my top ten films of all time, but they have been made to be standalone, because that's what the original films were. In my opinion DC's major problem is that they are afraid of change. My main fear for the reboot is that now their overcompensating and cramming change into where it doesn't belong.

Ever notice how Carrie Kelley looks like someone out of a Scooby Doo cartoon?

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, and Martian Manhunter (though in the new universe it's going to be Cyborg)

After loving the comics since the crisis on infinite earths (in 1986!) and only recently recieving the latest Edition of the D.C. Encyclopedia (which was NOT cheap.) My reaction to a *complete* reboot and retelling of all the stories was as follows:

I'll snatch up the first couple of Superman/Batman books. See where this goes.

They discontinued the Superman/Batman series. I have no idea why, I had a subscription to it and now I have to switch it to a different book.

It's not a retelling of ALL the stories, which is actually what makes it so damn complicated...

I'm excited.
This smells of Ultimate Marvel before Loeb ruined everything.
I'm gonna go for Flash, and GL since they appealed to me in the TimmVerse.
Hopefully they do Wally as Flash, and either Kyle or John as GL. (Hal is personality-deficient non-entity)

I want to read all of the recent Grant Morrison Batman work. Have looked for a list, but found none that was comprehensive, with all his canon Batman works from 2006 to date.

Mind giving it a try?

Thanks :D

OT: I don't give a crap anymore about arcs, try just to read by authors and their own epic lines.

Barry is Flash in the main book, but Wally is in Teen Titans. Hal is the main GL, but John is the main character in GL Corps, and Kyle is part of the New Gaurdians. Sorry Guy

Good way to do things, especially with Morrison. I already have read a lot of his stuff from that period. He is currently doing Batman INC. which has been really interesting. That title will be on hiatus from August until December, which I'm sure will be a great jumping on point, also DC will probably publish a trade of the first six Batman Inc. comics before then anyway.
