I'm really excited for it.
I want to read animal man (heard good things about grant Morrison's run),
Green Arrow (I've never read one of his comics, but I've really liked him in every one he's been in I read), Justice League International, swamp thing, demon knights (kinda), Mr.Terrific (kinda), Green Lantern (Sinestro???), Blue Beetle, captain atom (sorta), DCU presents, Firestorm, Hawkman, Teen titans.
So I want to try out a lot of it and I'm totally falling for this, and it's going to be great.
Right now I'm only reading Batman inc, Green lantern, Flashpoint, hellboy
rest in peace...in hell
, and I was reading deadman and the flying graysons, and I'm also catching up on moores swamp thing ( I think I'm on vol 3 or 4)
I've become a full fledged dc fanboy.

I'll snatch up the first couple of Superman/Batman books. See where this goes.
They discontinued the Superman/Batman series. I have no idea why, I had a subscription to it and now I have to switch it to a different book.
...
Well fuck that.

Just kidding (sorta) I am seriously interested in what changes they make to the Superman mythology though. Will his Kryptonite weakness behave the same way, what about the magic thing?
Action comics one (superman), and detective comics one (batman) are out sep 7. Batman and robin is out sep 14, and batman one is out on sep 21, and batman the dark knight one and superman one are out sep 28.

Oh man. So many brilliant looking books are going to be coming out next month. I really don't understand all the negativity surrounding the relaunch.

I might check these out since a local grocery store carries comics now, but I probably won't have any money. If I do though, I'll try whatever they have. I really want to check out Grant Morrison's Action Comics, and some stuff like Justice League Dark and Suicide Squad that I know my grocery store won't carry.

I think it's getting more and more obvious that DC are floundering against Marvel. OK, they're got the upper hand when it comes to video-games, but if it wasn't for Nolan's Batman series DC movies would be dead in the water. Green Lantern was fucking awful from head to toe, and the Justice League film seems like an extremely bad Idea considering they've just spent the past 7 years making realistic Batman films, only to have him team up with an alien, a man in an alien suit, another alien, an Amazonian and a God. I probably won't watch the Superman reboot because I think Superman is a completely 1-dimensional character.

Then you look at Marvel. They release decent films most of the time, they've got a much larger roster of well-known heroes to work with, most of them with complex back-stories. They know how to do special effects (most of the time), and most importantly they haven't minced the continuities too badly; the X-Men series is a bit fudged up now that First Class basically ignored the original trilogy (despite the fact it was meant to lead into it), but they've worked well on weaving the Avengers together, as opposed to DC who have made their heroes really standalone characters and then expect to be able to throw them together just like that.

The thing is, aside from Batman, DC's roster is just bland and uninteresting. Marvel have literally hundreds of characters to work with in their comics, and they usually do, but while DC have a decent amount of heroes, they only ever use Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter and Aquaman.

This whole reboot of the entire universe reeks of 'desperate attention-seeking' to me, and judging by the looks of it, a fair amount of people think so too.
Haha. No. Marvel has a bunch of ripoffs from other series. Blatant rip offs. And comics reboot their universes all the time, stop being so dramatic. You shouldn't make generalizations based on the only character you know from DC.

Well, the fact that Justice League, Aquaman, AND Green Lantern are all being written by Geoff Johns, who may not be perfect but he does a hell of a good job with DC characters, not to mention that Action Comics is being written by Grant Morrison, who wrote pretty much the best Superman story of the last decade (or ever, arguably), I'm optimistic about this. Granted, I don't expect the entire line-up to be a hit; that's practically impossible with this sort of thing. But most of the big titles look to be in good hands. I've already subscribed to the big 5: Justice League, Batman, Flash, Superman, and Green Lantern, though now I will definitely subscribe to Action Comics, and maybe a couple more if I get good suggestions from people who know these series and their writers better than I do.

I also find it funny how a couple of very obvious Marvel fans feel the need to come in here to give their opinions on a comic universe they obviously aren't fans of. I understand skepticism about this, but when all you do is say this is a publicity stunt and then heap all sorts of praise on Marvel for a whole paragraph... it's not really subtle.

After all, Marvel can make mistakes too. Horrible.... HORRIBLE mistakes.

ONE MORE DAY!!!!!!!

The Reboot is DC's version of the Ultimate universe. Nothing more or less. Instead of designating it Earth 52, or whatever because the number does not really matter, DC decided to rewrite the current universe for the 4th time in 10 years.

What makes me really pissed off about it not that its happening, but because it feels like Morrison and the others are correcting a mistake. About 10 years ago Morrison, Winnick and the other writers purposefully wrote the DC universe darker to bring about the Infinite Crisis. They killed off Sue Dibny, they wrote Batman to be more paranoid, made Wonder Woman more militant, and turned Superman indicisive just so they can bring back Alexander Luthor, Superboy Prime, and Kal-L to jump start the Infinite Crisis.

The reason why is because Grant Morrison fell in love with the old characters, the Legion of Super-heroes, Barry Allen, and the idea of jumping from universe to universe from time to time. He wanted to write stories using those older not used any characters, and some of the Elseworlds characters as well.

Now, instead of sticking to his guns and keeping the changes he made, he wants to spend time playing in a new alternate universe for atleast the next two years before the next infinite crisis style crossover event.

Yeah I'm pretty excited as well, I've been out of the ultimate universe (except for spidey) for a while now, I'm really looking forward to the new avengers and X-men titles. Glad Marvel decided to do a little clean up

I'm not sure exactly what the reboot entails (or, for that matter, how long it'll last)... but I'll have to give it a look.

Yeah as far as i know their keeping his origin mostly the same way, except he'll be feared as the first superhero in the DCU before the general public accepts him, he'll also be a bit younger than Batman, who will have been an urban myth until the formation of the Justice League. They'll be retelling Superman's origins in "Action Comics", and things currently happening in the DCU in "Superman". Their splitting the timeline so they can retell origins as well as show the new status quo. Batman; Legends of the Dark Knight will retell his, and Action Comics and JLA will also take part in the beginning of the emergance of superheros

with all the press the DC's marketing department has pumped out on his I can't imagine it won't be semi-permanent. Also Its a know fact that Geoff Johns pushed this out the door. He conceptualized almost all of the new origins and the universe as it will be, he also has Flashpoint in his reigns. How is this like the Ultimate universe at all?

I think you might be thinking of Geoff Johns, not Morrison.

In my opinion, DC's "Big Six" characters are such wonderful well rounded characters that have had giant sh**s taken all over them since the original JLA cartoon days.
Which are the big six?
Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, and Martian Manhunter/ Aquaman. Sorry forgot about Aquaman, he and the Manhunter share a spot really
Everyone forgets Aquaman :)

and about the reboot, I haven't really gotten into DC as much, so this reboot could offer an interesting opportunity to start with their characters from the beginning.

I'm fine with it since they have done it before with the Golden and Silver ages of their comics so to me it more like a natural process. Beside superheroes comic tend to not ages alongside with us well maybe Marvel.

First off I want to say thanks I am a fan of origin stories as I am the sort of person who like a begining and a end so that last bit there helped me decide where to start but I had to ask which comic is the "Legends of the dark knight"? or is it going to be a book rather than single issue series?

Why don't they just write better stories?

Or simply Vertigo the lot of them. Batman would be far better with Constantine helping him.
