They discontinued the Superman/Batman series. I have no idea why, I had a subscription to it and now I have to switch it to a different book.

Just kidding (sorta) I am seriously interested in what changes they make to the Superman mythology though. Will his Kryptonite weakness behave the same way, what about the magic thing?

Yeah as far as i know their keeping his origin mostly the same way, except he'll be feared as the first superhero in the DCU before the general public accepts him, he'll also be a bit younger than Batman, who will have been an urban myth until the formation of the Justice League. They'll be retelling Superman's origins in "Action Comics", and things currently happening in the DCU in "Superman". Their splitting the timeline so they can retell origins as well as show the new status quo. Batman; Legends of the Dark Knight will retell his, and Action Comics and JLA will also take part in the beginning of the emergance of superheros

First off I want to say thanks I am a fan of origin stories as I am the sort of person who like a begining and a end so that last bit there helped me decide where to start but I had to ask which comic is the "Legends of the dark knight"? or is it going to be a book rather than single issue series?

First off, I love comics, but haven't touched one since they had Gwen Stacy have Norman Osborn's bastard Goblin children that are in their mid 20's despite being only five years old or some crap like that (Different Universe, I know, but GOD did that story leave a bad taste in my mouth). I almost got back in when Dick Grayson was Batman, but that lasted all of two weeks. This reboot/re-imagining/publicity stunt/retcon waiting to happen (All it takes is one writer who prefers the way things were before) whatever you want to call it has me intrigued enough that I'll pick up a few of them (Well, the Superman titles, at least) when the trades come out.

with all the press the DC's marketing department has pumped out on his I can't imagine it won't be semi-permanent. Also Its a know fact that Geoff Johns pushed this out the door. He conceptualized almost all of the new origins and the universe as it will be, he also has Flashpoint in his reigns. How is this like the Ultimate universe at all?

The Ultimate Universe was designed solely to attract younger readers who wanted to read comic books without needing to know decades long continuity on all of the characters. Spider Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Avengers, etc. were given updated origin stories to reflect a world that evolved 40 years from when they were first made.

The way its been marketed, Flashpoint reeks of the same thing.

Marvel have literally hundreds of characters to work with in their comics, and they usually do, but while DC have a decent amount of heroes, they only ever use Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter and Aquaman.

This whole reboot of the entire universe reeks of 'desperate attention-seeking' to me, and judging by the looks of it, a fair amount of people think so too.

No no no no no no no. The DC roster is huge and full of deep, interesting characters with fantastic stories written by the most talented authors in the industry. You want proof? Read 52, one of DC's finest accomplishments.
The current state of Marvel comics is very... eugh. Brian Michael Bendis has done Marvel no favours through the past few years. Millar's Civil War was fantastic and the Dark Avengers story was really interesting but, apart from that, Marvel has been very lacklustre.
DC is currently at the top of it's game, thanks to Geoff Johns, Peter J. Tomassi and Grant Morrison. I can recommend at least 10 great miniseries' (such as Blackest Night, Sinestro Corps War, Identity Crisis, Batman & Robin, Dastardly Death Of The Rogues) by DC that wipe the floor with current Marvel stuff. X-Men hasn't been good since Whedon stopped writing Astonishing X-Men, sadly.

OT: I'm in two minds about the reboot. On the one hand, most of the changes DC have made in the past, like Crisis On Infinite Earths and Infinite Crisis, were brilliant and helped straighten out the world when it's all become a bit of a mess so maybe this will have the same effect. With Morrison now writing Action Comics, I have very high hopes for Superman. On the other hand, I have no idea why there's now Detective Comics, Batman, The Dark Knight and Batgirl. That's just confusing and ridiculous right off the bat.

It depends on how it's going to play out. If they're going to reintroduce all of the established heroes and villains then that's gonna be sad and tedious but if they keep it fresh and interesting, like Marvel did with the Ultimate universe, then this could be fantastic.

And having Damian Wayne stay on as Robin as really piqued my interests immediately.

Also I've gotta say I'm glad that Morrison is in charge of Superman but I'm even more glad that he's not writing Batman. I mean Batman & Robin was amazing, really really fantastic but The Return Of Bruce Wayne was a mess of convoluted mumbo jumbo and was very obviously rushed and that really made me want Batman to switch hands once again. So yay for that!
I'm also really excited for some of the more original series' like Red Lanterns. And I'm definitely gonna be reading Aquaman because he's the one DC hero I've always wanted to read but never managed to get into.

Actually, all of this reboot talk has made me realise that I'm a lot more excited about the reboot than I thought I was... actually, I can't wait for it! Bring it on!
