To me it just sounds like a mod got drunk and crazy. I don't see how your "exploit suspension system" can be so broken it just randomly bans people.
Many of the bans were deserved. Sounds to me like a error in the SQL used to generate the list of bans/warnings.

The event had a quest that spawned periodically, where random players were grouped to fight a dragon (based on the player level).

Multiple instances of this quest were active at once (as the event was popular due to the rewards).

The reward for killing the dragon (a 'spectral dragon scale') was used to craft rare items.

There was an exploit that enabled a player to (possibly) get more than one reward (scale) per quest.

It appears that anyone who was in the quest when another player used this exploit was warned.

But I play both what does that make me. :(
Either confused or disturbing. :p

I'd gripe about this whole exclusive "you can only play one game" BS, but with MMOs... honestly, my hat's off to you, I don't know how you find the time.

Classic MMO "RPG" management: punish players for any kind of creativity or success, don't fix the game.

Why should the cheaters not have to take any responsibility for their actions?

I know how this exploit worked and there was no 'creative' game play involved.

People who used this exploit knew they were cheating for profit and not using a valid 'tactic'.

"Fixing the game" would punish players who had a genuine issue (beyond their control) by depriving them of a reward they had earned.

I got a 3 day temp ban in LOTRO for saying "cocks" in private chat.
How does private chat moderation work? I dislike full-monitoring/keyword monitoring.
Most MMOs afaik tend to run a only-if-it's-reported system.
People say all sorts of stuff in private chat lol, a lot of it not serious, so you only need to be careful to whom you talk to ^^.

Shoot, I wish I had been online, and banned. 100 points isn't a laughable amount.

I guess I will go with disturbing then. :)

Not to mention they have several moderators dedicated to watching what my kinship (guild) says in their chat.

Turbine is a bunch of assclowns.

Oh great, so I'm playing a dictator-like moderated game. At least they apologized and gave everyone who did get banned extras. Cause playing DDO is like eating chocolate chip cookies to me.

From my experience playing DDO and LotRO (over the last 5 years) Turbine does not actively monitor private chat.

But if you are reported by one of your fellowship/party/PUG then the GM can check the logs (only typed not via the voice chat built into either game).

I have never heard of anyone being banned for swearing (both games have swear filters), only for abusing another player.

No one gets banned for JUST saying 'cocks'.

Anyone who claims that Turbine takes the time to monitor their private chat is exagerating and/or is annoyed because they were banned for abusing other players (and wants revenge).

Turbine simply does not spend valuable man hours (ie dollars) monitoring potty mouthed players.
