Ah... I knew it.

I just knew this game was going to be a mess.

Knew it, knew it, knew it.
My brother bought it from green man gaming for 35 bucks, and he's been playing it for fifteen hours now without a problem and it looks gorgeous. Sorry if that deflates your sense of vindication a bit.
Not at all.

That doesn't chance the fact that they released a developer build.

Sorry if that deflates your sense of vindication a bit.

Now, with that being said, in all honesty: good for your brother. I'm legitimately happy for him. That doesn't mean that I don't think the game looks like shit, and that it's release has, for most people, been a horrid mess.

I would never damn someone for enjoying a game I think looks atrocious. I'll just damn the game.

EDIT: Also, not a troll, Failman. Just a man with an opinion. Learn what a troll is before you start throwing the word around.

You're all too happily jeering it without trying it. That looks pretty troll-tastic to me. Look, I'll send you two one dollar bills and you can redbox it on me provided you own a console. Unless it's some nutty matter of principal for you. Granted, B's rap may scare anyone off.

You thought the game was going to be a mess so you're looking for grounds to justify that. This is a bit of a boner yeah, but it'll be easy to fix it and the game's pretty good if you enjoyed, say fallout 3 and beyond. I thought it was gonna be shit from the trailers too. I am pleasantly surprised. I wasn't gonna buy it but now seeing him play it I'm impressed.

It's troll-tastic to think a game looks horrible? What kind of world do we live in where a man can't hate a game based on his past experience with similar games and seeing enough gameplay videos.

If you really, truly want to send me a couple bucks so I can get it on Redbox (though, let me find one first, I rarely see them in my area) be my guest. I have no principle against trying games I think look terrible if I don't need to pay to try it (that's why I fully intended to download a demo, though it looks like Dead Island won't be getting it).

But fair warning, I've only been wrong about how much I would enjoy a game once in the past ten years (fucking Brutal Legend...) so it may be a waste of your two bucks.

And that isn't be being arrogant or jeering. It's the truth. I know what I like, and I've seen enough of that game to believe I wouldn't like it.

If I'm wrong the for the second time in a decade, though, I'll gladly admit it.

EDIT: Just now seeing your edited in paragraph. I've watch quite a few gameplay videos for it, and I think it looks boring as hell, and my prediction was that the game would bore the shit of me, and that the release would be a buggy mess. I'm not looking to justify it, I'm right. The release is a mess. Maybe they'll patch it up and it'll be bug free (I hope they do, for the gamers that bought it) but either way, it won't change how the game came out. A buggy mess, and to top it all off, an incorrect version.

EDIT2: Worded one thing a little harshly- I don't outright hate the game, just the idea of it, for multiple reasons.

I'm right with you on that. I thought from the trailers it was going to be some kind of gangsta black-sploitation left 4 dead rip-off. It was only until I saw it's an actual RPG that I changed my mind. I think the trailers did a very bad job representing the game.

But it's nice to see you can be a gentleman about it. Seriously, send me your address via a PM and I'll send ya two dollars (seeing as we're both in the us this is pretty easily accomplished). I'll be kind of disappointed if you don't like it admittedly but since you're willing to try it at least you'll have specific criticisms and nobody can hit you with the "you never played it" argument anymore. If you didn't enjoy say, fallout 3 then the odds are low you'll enjoy this, fair warning.

Edit: Yeah it's pretty slow going at first. Especially when you're dealing with low level shamblers. And maybe zombies are not your thing. For my part I shouldn't assume you're acting entirely out of ignorance. Just try to enjoy the rental on me, lol.

I really didn't like Fallout 3... wanted to, but didn't. Gave it a good five chances, too.

But I'll look for a Redbox and get back to you.

Yeah... you know what. I'm just going to stay the hell away from this game. I know this is basically rumor and the Escapist probably shouldn't have put it out here so soon, but it had a day one patch for thirty-seven problems (that I knew of), and now it might not be the correct version. I'm just going to stay over here with my ten-foot pole. Unless I hear something to the effect of "recall on Dead Island" I'm probably not going to get it until it drops to a pittance.

Tohuvabohu

Not entirely serious, maybe.

None of this is confirmed just yet, although it would be a much smaller PR disaster for developer Techland and publisher Deep Silver if it were. It's one thing to make a mistake a put out the wrong version, but it's quite another to release a thoroughly broken and unfinished game on purpose, and while neither option is especially good, the former is undeniably less bad. We've reached out to Techland and Deep Silver for comment, and will update the story if/when we hear back.

Pardon me if I misunderstood this, but this huge mistake was indeed confirmed by Deep Silver.

^Post by Gadwyn

We deeply regret that it was not possible to make the final patched version of Dead Island available to players at launch in North America.
We apologize for any issues you may have experienced while playing the game, the final patched version will be made available to North American players today.

Other territories are not affected by this situation, the fully patched game will be available on Friday as announced.
Yeah, it's a pretty embarrassing fuckup.

But the game was pretty fun. Press Y to no-clip was amusing while it lasted. And I personally didn't have many troubles running the game.

Even with all this, and the fact that they released the bloody Dev build of the game, it STILL has less bugs and runs better than Brink did with it's "early release". hah

What would really be worse though, if it was the wrong one, or if it was the right game but filled with bugs anyway (I.E. Fallout New Vegas)?

I'm starting to believe the former. From reading Gadwyn's posts on the forum linked by a previous poster it seems like they're patching up the current Steam versions, which would take away dev options. This would mean everything else included in the Steam version was meant to be in it, which worries me because a good number of people are still experiencing framerate drops followed by crashes, next to all the other bugs the day one patch is supposed to fix. Or maybe it's just easier for Techland to give us the actual version through patches instead of having everyone re-download the full game.

They still have time to solve the issues for the EU release, but I can imagine US players to be pretty pissed right now. I've also read of people experiencing altogether new bugs after a Steam patch that was released today, including disappearance of DLC.

So far the fix sounds like a clusterfuck to me, but I'll stay level-headed and I'll keep looking into any progress being made.

EDIT: Fixed a mistake in my first paragraph :)

Oh my this is a real mess. I've had steam is self go "fuck it" and just crash out of the game or just freeze up. Worse is that my checkpoint system seems to be also screwy, I can't just jump back into where I crashed out from, since I'm playing a throwing character this has also caused some oddities. I throw my 3 inventory weapons crash out, oh look for some reason the weapons I threw all changed into different ones. Guess I'll have to wait a couple of days for all this to iron out.
I'm also wondering if the kicks in the game aren't supposed to cost any stamina. In the first zombie encounter the guy is like OMG RUN, and I was like oh....kick kick kick, oh look all 4 zombies are dead...I win?

I'm glad I didn't pre order this than.
I had all my information typed in Steam than I remembered my "never pre-order, or purchase on launch day rule".

v.8! v.8!

What comedy, still a few days til Auzzie release.

And despite all this I am still looking forward to this years zombie games, and what the new silent hill has in store. What an optimist.

I'm hoping this is the case. The game's playing alright for me, but it can be slow and choppy at times and the mouse cursor in the inventory screens is moving sluggish.
