Dead Island: is this a bug or am I just being stupid?

Okay, I bought Dead Island on Friday and I've been enjoying it so far, however I think I may have came across a bug which kind of breaks the game as it forced me to restart from the beginning with a new save because it wouldn't let me progress to the next main quest.

This is how it works, when you get the main quest "To Kill Time" in the lifeguard tower after clearing out all of the undead you get your first chance to do a few subquests. Being as this is basically an RPG I felt it was best if I did all the subquests before I did the main quest so that I had enough XP to deal with whatever new challenges faced me in the next part. However this is where the problem is, down by the railings facing the beach you find Mike standing next to a pile of bodies he wants you to help him burn, I had already done a little exploration so I had a car I got from escorting the woman trapped in the bungalow (I forgot her name) to the lighthouse.

Since I had the vehicle, I could get the fuel without any problem, and seeing as it's a simple fetch quest it didn't really take all that long. However, once you complete this quest Mike moves to the top of the lifeguard tower and his quest changes to one that can never be completed because it's continuous. He now will give you Molotov cocktails for every five bottles of alcohol you can get for him, which is good until you realize that completing his mission is half of the main quest. I then went to talk to Dominic as the main quest suggested and found out that he wanted me to go to the lighthouse to retrieve a transmitter, the problem was, I'd already been to the lighthouse I also took the oppertunity to do all of the side quests while I was there, including the one that lets me into the lighthouse warehouse.

At this point I also wanted to see how the fast travel worked in the game out of curiosity, so I decided to kill two birds with one stone and complete the mission using the fast travel to get from the lifeguard tower to the lighthouse and back again, since it was the last part of the main quest and I didn't mind skipping through it to get to the next part. Turns out when you get there you cannot pick up the transmitter, there is no prompt to do so and somehow the quest thinks that you do. When I returned to the lighthouse, thinking I had done what it wanted me to do, Dominic was right there as I left him and there was no prompt to talk to him again (his name now shows up green, meaning I completed the quest). However when I return to Sinamoi again he acts like I'm still doing the quest and his text is also green, so I'm essentially stuck there with no hope of progressing.

Either I missed something or the game bugged out on me, I'd like to know if anyone else experienced this and if there's any way to fix it. Hopefully I'm just being a dumbass and I missed something completely obvious.

I wouldn't say your stupid, it's the fault of Deep Silver for allowing you to do it. In the future, just play the game the way they want you to play it until your like 3-4 hours in. So yeah, you may need to restart.

They really need to implement an manual save in this game. It's far too buggy to do without one.

Well sinamoi is not who you give the transmitter to. Also make sure you actually have all the quests, also with most delivery quests they want the item in some random spot. (you can tell by seeing a grey translucent replica of the item in question).

The transmitter isn't something you pick up. After you finish all the lighthouse side quests (except finding the plane) you will have the option of getting it. You made no mention of fixing the help sign which has to be done first. There are also a few other quest givers hiding in bungalows and near the roads. These people once saved will sometimes end up at a safe house and are needed to further trigger some quests.

I think you game is going to be fine.
I did every quest at the lighthouse, including the help sign one and that one where I go off to get the flares (as well as the continuous one to get that guy food, the one for champagne and the one for water). I also did a load of side quests like the one for the teddy bear, the one for the necklace the one to find that woman's husband, the one to fix the car, the one to find the ambulance stuff and the one for the painkillers.

The transmitter is on the shelf in the warehouse next to the duct tape and I managed to pick it up on my new save, but in the old one (which I deleted now) there was no prompt and since the quest was apparently completed I wanted to talk to Sinemoi for the next quest, but he thinks I'm still on the "To Kill Time" one. I think it's something to do with doing Mike's quest early on and doing Dominic's quest with fast travel that messes it up because once I got back to the lifeguard tower nobody would talk to me any more.

Sounds like a bug. I think the game expected you to speak to Dominic first before you done the quests at the lighthouse, so it somehow glitched the game because you didn't. I've been hearing it's quite a buggy game. Not experienced any noticeable bugs myself yet, though.

It's because you skipped a trigger. It's a bug. Part of the quest for the transmitter is to help the people around the light house. It doesn't say it in the quest until you do it, but gaining access to the store room is a quest objective for it. If you already had access to it, you don't really gain access to it...and so you don't get to the part for the transmitter.
