So Dead or Alive 5: Last Round just released this Tuesday, and Evolve released shortly before that. While they're two completely different genres of games, they both have one big thing in common; a ton of Day 1 DLC.
But are they equally unfair? Someone I was talking to said I couldn't say anything about Evolve's DLC since I play DoA and it has a deluge of Day 1 DLC. But is the DLC for DoA actually DLC done right?
To compare:
Evolve
Cost -$60 - Includes skins and customization for base characters
Season Pass - $30 - Includes threes skins for existing Hunters and 4 new Hunters (Affects Gameplay)
33 items of skins/items, $75 individually - $60 if you buy in bundles (Do not affect gameplay)
Dead or Alive 5: Last Round
Cost - $40 - Includes all DLC characters from last Gen (Marie Rose, Nyotengu, Phase 4) and 2 new characters (Honoka, Radiou). All gameplay affecting features are included on the disc.
Season Pass - $70 - Includes the next 100 or so Costumes that will be released.
Ultimate Bundle - $93 - Includes every single DLC for every single character from the previous generation - all 210 costumes released in the last 2 years. (Do not affect gameplay)
Character Bundles - $20 - Allows you to buy all the costumes for 1 character (usually about 10-18)
Costume Set Bundles - $6 to $15 - Allows you to buy all the costumes of a certain set (IE: All the Bunny Outfits, all the Halloween Costumes etc.)
Evolve
Total Cost for all Gameplay Elements - $90
Total Cost for all Elements - $150
Dead or Alive 5
Total Cost for all Gameplay Elements - $40
Total Cost for all Elements - $210
I feel like Dead or Alive is far better; not only for the pricing, but because its gathering up 2 years of DLC instead of being a brand new game. In addition, there is a TON of customization already on the disc; every character has at least 4 skins by default that you can unlock (with some exceptions). Most characters have more - Helena, Kasumi, Ayane etc. all have at least 10 costumes each to unlock on the disc.
