Dead Rising Vs. Dead Island. Which is better.

I just noticed that Dead Island is on sale for $5 on Steam. I remember my time with the Dead Rising series not being so pleasant so I was wondering. Which game franchise do you prefer?

Dead Rising is way better. Island has a strong first act, then enemies with guns show up and it becomes the worst. Like, even worse than when DR enemies had guns. I'd give it a pass, but I'm not you.

The first Dead Rising was a real pain in the ass for me. I hated the time clock, it was great for atmosphere... I mean I constantly felt anxiety while playing it, but also just that.... I get home from work, I don't want to play game that's going to stress me out even worse. Thats why I loved that Dead Rising 2 had a better save system and was more forgiving time wise.

Dead Island... Is pretty nifty in ways. It's pretty immersive, You drive cars in first person and even see the steering wheel and what not. The only problem with it is, playing by yourself the game feels pretty empty. none of the NPC really seem alive. At all.

I haven't played Island 'cos it looks awful to me.

It has an awful combat system, knock 'em down and stomp 'em seems to be the best tactic. The weapons break every 2 fucking minutes and seem to cost an ungodly amount to repair (if I remember right).

Rising 2 (PS guy) was just fun and goofy, dressing up in weird clothes, making weird and sometimes awesome weapons (although this was blunted by the fact that fire axe +sledge hammer was not only a good combo but you could build it every time you left your safe spot) like a wheel chair with machine guns strapped to it etc.

Had some interesting bosses as well, like how you could feed a tiger steaks to be your friend (even though it was a little broken), you had a crazy guy in the toilets, then the three rednecks ... I don't think one of them was boring.

The time mechanic was nice, kept you on your toes and meant you couldn't do everything first time, which added replay value.

Rising. Island was a boring buggy mess of a game that used unnecessary dungeon crawler elements and some of the worst characters in recent times.
Rising had some quirks to the combat and locations and I fucking love the weapon system.

Dead Rising.
A million times over, Dead Rising.
That game and it's sequel were great.

Dead Island on the other hand, was "meh" incarnate.
Playable, yes. Enjoyable, for a little while. But it became bland, boring and all sorts of mediocre adjectives as time went by (specifically after the first bit). It had some nasty exploits and silly systems that you had to wrestle with, whereas the only big problem I thought Dead Rising had was the method of saving.

So if you're one of those select few who managed to not enjoy Dead Rising, I really don't think Dead Island will fare any better in your eyes. In fact, I think it'll probably be worse. But that's just me, who has played both and has formed a strong preference towards one over the other.

If you have people to co-op with go for Dead Island. It's buggy, but fun.
If solo, probably go for Dead Rising. However, I'm not really a big fan of Dead Rising "countdown clock" mechanic. (Yes, I am aware of sandbox mode, but it's not the same)

Only played Dead Rising 2, so between that an Island, I preferred Island. I like the combat and story more. Plus no fucking clock.

I like rising more myself. It was different then almost every zombie apocolypse game out there. Plus you could do some really silly stuff like beat zombies with purses, make crazy weapons like lightsabers, and it had really memorable bosses like the chainsaw wielding clown. The second one was mechanically better but IMO not as good in a story department due to its predictability. Unfortunately Dead rising 3 looks to be the anti-thesis of everything that made the previous games good so I dont think Im going to enjoy it

Dead island...well it was a FPS diablo game set in a zombie apocolypse with all the interesting characters removed, an overly serious tone, and unimpressive gameplay mechanics. I want to say the story was bad but cocnsidering I dont remember what it was about (and I know I beat that game) I just have to call it forgetable
