I just now noticed it was available on the XBL Marketplace and i'm downloading now. Has anyone played it yet?

A few friends said just the demo scared them more than the whole first game.

Edit: Just got done playing it... My thoughts:

The demo first starts out with a brief narrative explaining everything that happened in DS1.I won't spoil anything for you so ill skip to the gameplay. The demo starts off with you standing in a random ass hall. You open a door... Walk through the area... You do that about 4 times before you get to kill anything. Basically all you do in the demo is walk through a few areas and kill everything. It gave no description of the story, or what your objective was. I presume it was meant to be vague so it wouldn't spoil anything...

Demo 5/10

I'm on the fence about playing the demo. The game is a day one purchase for me, and I don't know if I want to spoil anything by playing the demo. I think I'll just play the first game again.

Dead Space is scary?

Dead Space is gory, and somewhat surprising, but not scary.

I do kinda wish Resident Evil would go back to doing better death scenes, though...

Occasionally.

It's scarier than Resident Evil 4 and 5, and probably on par with the rest of the series except maybe the first game.

And it's really tense when it decides to build up a little. That said, while Dead Space: Extraction is in no way in the same league as a Silent Hill or Penumbra Game, it's far scarier than the Original.

While neither Game did not exactly blow my mind, they were both very enjoyable, so yeah, gonna try the demo, hoping i'm not yet tired of DS in general.

The first couple things that pop out at you in dead space 1 made you jump a tad bit. But like Yahtzee said, after it happening 100 times, it doesn't scare you anymore...

DeadSpace was scary. It was like it was reading my mind. Every time I turned around to check if there was a monster behind me, lo and behold there one was!
If that game got any more predictable it would be the plot of a Predator movie.

Too me it's more freaky than scary as it mainly relied on monsters jumping out on you. Still made me jump though.

As someone who's never found any game "scary", I'd still say that Dead Space came closer than all except the first Condemned game.

No Resident Evil game has ever been scary.

I recommend Silent Hill 2, only game that's really gotten under my skin. Condemned 1 and 2 certainly had their moments too though.... Manikins and bear chases to name but two.

OT:

Just played it, exactly like Dead Space 1 which to me is good news. Scared me silly at one point too which was awesome.

It's also stunning looking, possibly the best graphics I've seen, but I thought that about DS1 too.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!

Instant download. Dead Space is a great game, one of only two gaming franchises to scare me. The other being Silent Hill of course.

I loved it. Absolutely gorgeous graphics and animations (though some scripted moments look awkward). Lights and Shadows look great (try shining your light on a wall or something and it will cast realistic shadows). The sound is fantastic, but that is to be expected. The gameplay is still a little stiff, but there are huge improvements to zero-g and to shooting in general. As for the scares I can't say much since I saw them all at the E3 demo, but there were a few moments that still made me jump (ie seeing a Necromorph three floors below me climb a wall, one absolutely horrifying elevator moment). The sound also greatly contributed to the scare factor- hearing one of them lumbering around and not knowing where is a great feeling.

Is this worth getting?

I generally refrain from downloading anything other than DLC packs or else I'll probably kill the internet (I live in Australia), but I freakin' love Dead Space, so is it overall worth the download?

Boring, ugly, and definitely not scary (in fact, this brings me to a question: how can anyone be scared by playing anything on a console? There's no intimacy whatsoever, and bringing it back to Dead Space 2 especially, the controls feel so clunky that that's what I'm thinking about half the time).

AND WHY HAVE I GOT AN ASSAULT RIFLE?! AND A 5-ARROWED CROSSWBOW?!

I thought this shit fell under the "survival-horror" category?
