Wow how come no one has pointed out the most obvious answer. That anyone who did buy it for the Wii would need a 360 or a PS3 to continue on with the story. And anyone who played the original would need a Wii to find more of the backstory. EA seems to have gotten a bit greedy with Dead Space. There is an animated movie prequel that was released a week before the game. This is not the way to build a franchise.
It does seem very disjointed, doesn't it? Does this mean only privileged people will be able to see the whole story?

Dead Space on the Wii. Which fucknugget thought that was a good idea?
Dead Space Extraction seems to be getting a lot of positive buzz, and it's does not look to be a bad game for the Wii. The problem is, like the analyst stated, there was seriously no marketing behind this. Literally only a couple of gaming websites advertised Dead Space Extraction for a short amount of time, and that's it.

It's no surprise no one even heard about it, and people are just assuming random stuff about it. Despite being a rail shooter (I never understood the trend of "It it's a rail shooter, it automatically sucks"), it got good reviews.

A shame it sold so poorly, because this game had a lot of effort put into it, but now will be forgotten quickly. Even worse, it could be yet another influence on future developers to encourage them to give up on the Wii, which is not what is needed.

Well since I didn't even mention the animated prequel comics (or whatever they were called) that was on the XBL marketplace.

The animated comics take place on the planet with the colony. The movie tells the story of the ship that you board in the first game. Did no one at EA think about this before saying "lets make a prequel for the Wii?" And then they blame marketing and M ratings for low sales? Guess it is easier than saying "we got lazy and tried to sell you the same thing twice".

A compadre of mine asked why a game like Extraction, which by all reports is pretty good, would sell so poorly and I honestly can't come up with a better reason than the one we've already touched on: Mature games just don't sell on the Wii. It's a sweeping generalization, sure, but I dare you to show me that it's not true. idiotic pilates things [http://www.wiisportsresort.com/] sell by the truckload on the Wii, but M-rated games? Chasing that demographic is just flushing money down the crapper.
Dead Space: Pilates? Those giant blade arms are not just going to stretch themselves you know.

What does the EEDAR say about it's sales level?

The big problem with the Wii is that it doesn't act as a serious console. It'd be like rushing out to get the new Jeffrey Archer book on the first day of release.

It's not over 9000!

But really, that doesn't surprise me, while a lot of M rated titles on the Wii have been good, it's just not the target demographic...Also, I've seen the rise in M rated games on the 360/PS3, Just shows me that if you want M rated games you buy a one of them.

Right, it must be the poor marketing, not that mostly housewives and 10 year olds own the Wii, or the fact that its release date is dangerously close to a shitstorm of AAA titles that people have been waiting for for years.

These!

Also I thought Dead Space was crap and the rail-shooter is a dying genre, a rail shooter has to be done really well to be worth it. RE:Umbrella Chronicles is a good example, my time logged is somewhere around 25-30 hours which is more than I get from standard action games.

Dead Space apparently only clocks in at about 8 hours which doesn't make it worth my money, rental perhaps but not buy.

I don't care what they called it, "First Person Guided Experience" or whatever, it's a rail shooter. And rail shooters have to be repayable not packed with a serous story or it's hard to play it. Like House of the Dead 2, "G's Bloodstains!" is going to beat out whatever well laid out story they might have had. And I loved the REAL Deadspace.

The only rail shooter I'm planning on getting is House of the Dead Overkill.

I think the Wii covers practically every demographic, but focuses on young children and parents. My son is almost 5 now and the Wii is the only way we could play games together; for that I'm grateful. However, I don't care at all about the next GTA or Resident Evil. I think the majority of parents want mature adult games and not mature teenage games, like Dead Space. Unfortunately, no consoles really carry adult games at this time. Heavy Rain makes me interested in getting a PS3, but one game doesn't do it for me. I mean, that's like spending $400+ on a single game.

So yeah, I agree with you, Malygris. No matter how you package the thing, mature games that appeal to younger persons won't sell that well on the Wii. They've already got their Xbox 360s and are playing other mature games, like ODST.

I doubt this came as a surprise to anyone, it was doomed even before it's release. Even the greatest marketing in the world wouldn't shift a mature Wii title.

Dead Space on the XBOX360 and PS3 didn't even sell so good.

What made them think a stripped down version on the Wii would fare any better.

On another note, Red Steel didn't do so bad either saleswise. So it's not that mature games can't sell on the Wii, it's just that if you don't market them they aren't going to anyway. It's a simple fact of selling anything that you need to market it for it to go anywhere.

I didn't even know this game existed. Definitely proves that the marketing was terrible.
