Dead Space, I don't get it

Am I the only one who doesn't get the hype behind Dead Space? It all looks like more of the same to me, System Shock 2 without the gripping story, also, other games have been doing dismemberment before it, and you might say "it's not strategic" yes it is, in Lost Planet there were creatures with weak points on arms and legs and VATS in Fallout 3 looks to be using it also, from everything I figure it's just more of the same.

The no HUD system might be cool but other titles that I can't remember the name of have done this before.

Anyone excited for Dead Space care to tell me why, and explain why everyone seems like they think it'll be the second coming of christ?

I don't "feel" or have any hype for Dead Space, but it does seem enjoyable.

The only thing i'm worried about is the "tacticle dismemberment" gimick that EA is trying to push out. I can see it get old VERY quickly, especially when I barely have any ammo and I just want to shoot the damn fucker.

Other than that though, I think it's that it's one of the only Space horror 3rd person shooters out there (if i'm not mistaken). It's the bloodiest thing EA has ever created, and to top tat off the story is quite interesting.

Hmmm. Interesting point, and I do think from what I have seen of it it does resemble System Shock 2. The major difference however is the fact that in Dead Space you are just a completely average worker, equipped with only basic mining equipment to defend yourself with, and a cumbersome suit. I also think they're playing much more on the suspense factor with this game, and obviously the graphics are much improved.

Is there a lot of hype over it? I haven't noticed, but then again one of my friends is afraid of horror games and I doubt the rest have ever heard of it. I plan on getting the game if it's good, but not overly excited or preordering or anything. I'll wait for the reviews.

I guess some of the reason I wan the game is that you don't play some space marine badass, your just a ship mechanic with little or no combat skills having to face all those creepy monsters.

It's more Ridley Scott sci-fi than point the gun at the alien sci-fi so that's a breath of fresh air for videogames. That plus I want to see how this zero-gravity gameplay pans out. And I always hope that EA can get their gameplay to match their production values.

I haven't heard any hype...
Although it looks like it could be good, like RE4, except scary.

I might just rent it to try it out, maybe not even that. I've watched the animated story on Xbox Live, and I've enjoyed that, but I don't think the game will have a very good story at all, unfortunately.

In response to everyone saying there's almost no hype:
It's been all over IGN and Game Informer, being one of their most anticipated games, which I just don't understand

It's a survival horror in space, what do you not understand?

The dismemberments look cool, the creepy atmosphere seems solid, the targeting system is smooth...

It just looks like a really polished game. That is, in my opinion, enough to warrant a decent amount of hype.
Ivoryagent being serious and not making his whole statement a joke?

Has the world gone mad?

What I don't understand is why everyone is so excited for it, it all seems very "meh" to me.
