Which one should I buy for the Xbox 360? I tried the demo for Dead Space and loved it, but I also played the original Bioshock on the PC and like it. What do you think will last me the longest?

While I didn't enjoy Bioshock 2 very much, neither did I enjoy Dead Space very much. They're both good for about three quarters of a playthrough.

Bioshock 2 is the longer game. It's also better then Dead Space.

However, be aware that Bioshock 2 isn't as good as the original. The gameplay is improved, but the story and stuff isn't as high quality.

I liked both, so it's really all a matter of do you like drill charging enemies or stomping on them with a big heavy boot.

Dead Space is a fantastic game, although it doesn't change up its enemies/weapons/set pieces enough to stay fresh throughout the entire game. The innovative combat gets repetitive quickly and there are no decent puzzles or environmental changes to keep things interesting. It's not particularly scary either. Still, it's absolutely worth at least one play through, although you may be tired of it before it's over.

BioShock 2 is both an improvement over its predecessor and a step backwards. While the story deals with more emotional material and is told with better pacing than BioShock's story, it has no truly shocking moments. Whereas the plot of BioShock is so important because it crosses right out of video game territory and forces us to question the nature of the human response to perceived authority, Bioshock 2 is just a well-told story.

In BioShock, the world of Rapture was a new and incredibly engrossing place, with the mystery of exactly what it is and what happened to it spurring on the game. BioShock 2 doesn't have this, since we already know everything we need to about Rapture.

That said, BioShock 2 is an improvement in the gameplay department in every conceivable way. The addition of a melee attack, dual-wielding weapons and plasmids, far more interesting weapons and plasmids with much better upgrades, improved level design, far better hacking, the video camera system beats the photographs and so on.

BioShock 2 is a longer game and the DLC (Minerva's Den) for it is stunning. It also has multiplayer that's fun for a while, and the game is worth replaying once or twice just to try different approaches with plasmids/tonics/weapon upgrades, if not just for the achievements along the way. I'd say go for BioShock 2.

Of those two, Dead Space. Loved the dismembering and zero gravity and the Necromorphs were awesome.
That said, I certainly rate Bioshock 1 (or the only game called Bioshock) over Dead Space by miles with all its thirties atmosphere and artistic beauty and charm, in fact I'd do the same for Bioshock 2 were it not for the fact that the first game was a self contained classic that needed no sequel.

hmmmh...I'd say Dead Space. If it was Bioshock 1, no contest Bioshock, but Bioshock 2...entierly superflous.

I'm gonna have to go with Dead Space here. It'll last you more playthroughs. Its a longer game and better really.
Bioshock 2 was better than the first gameplay wise. But with everything else its a step backwards.

I guess it all depends on your answer to this question. Do you wanna venture into the unknown or return to rapture?

I'd go for Dead Space.

Bioshock 2 is a good game by itself in terms of gameplay but the story keeps trying to tie itself into the first games plot and it just becomes a bit of a mess by the end of it. The main villain of BS2 isn't as great as Andrew Ryan/Fontaine from the first one and she just comes off as a ***** with enough smugness to make Duke Nukem blush. Once again, the gameplay is great, dual wielding both plasmids and a drill is pretty entertaining and fun to use and the Camera/Hacking sections have been changed to be a lot less intrusive to the game. The atmosphere of BS2 is slightly stronger than the first game, but only once you get to the later levels.

Dead Space is another good game but I just enjoy it more than Bioshock 2.The fact that this game doesn't have to try and keep in ties with a previous title gives this one a lot more room to move around. It isn't quite exactly a "horror" game, the scares are quite easy to predict and the music tends to let you know when there monster encounters around. The atmosphere is good and it does get pretty chilling in some levels. The story is good but not great at the beginning but it does peak up when you're nearing the end. Dismembering enemies, jumping in Zero-Gravity and walking the soundless vaccums of space (or dismembering enemies in Zero-G in the soundless vaccums of space) is a lot of fun although you will see it all the time and it does loose it's "wow" factor after a bit, but the multiple types of enemies/weapons and objects to throw using the telekinesis tool/gravity-gun keep it from being too boring.

I have to say that I quite enjoyed Dead Space, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment. While I agree with others in that the 'shocks' are repetative (i.e. a dead body jumping up - if I had a dollar for every time that happened...), and the level design - although well-suited for the interior of an overwhelmed mining ship - didn't really earn any points. However, the gunplay worked fine (if you would excuse the odd melee instead of zoom-and-shoot), especially the ammunition-saving dismemberment selling-point. When the evironment changes to the zero-gee sections, it works fine. The zero-gee sections were a highlight in my opinion - especially the boss fight where you're in zero-gee and the monster has giant tentacles flailing around everywhere. The storyline was not the best I've seen, but solid enough to keep me through to the end, and it involved nice little touches that helped us sympathise with Isaac whilst questioning his sanity. Unfourtunately the story is not told well enough that more than one playthrough could be wrung from me, and there is only the single player mode (which, I supposed, is fine). Replayability would probably be milked more from Bioshock 2 for its multiplayer aspect.
That said, Bioshock 1 was one of my favourite games, in that the story was so well told, it had an awesome twist, the gameplay was good, and the characters (most notably, the Big Daddy A.I., in that they ignore you unless provoked) often provided some insight onto the world that you stepped into.
I did not enjoy Bioshock 2, thinking that it was essentially almost more of the same, save the combat changes. The last 2 hours, or thereabouts, are the best, where the game steps up and shines. Think of it as this: Bioshock 1 took you to a magic show, but Bioshock 2 showed you how the tricks were done.
All in all, I would definately choose Dead Space over Bioshock 2, mainly because if you've played Bioshock 1 then you've played Bioshock 2

On second thought, if I were you I would go with personal opinion. If you've read Robert Yang's "The Philosophy of Game Design", then you would know that someone else's opinion is not the best way to solve a dilemma

Dead Space was surprisingly good. I bought it after it had dropped to the $20 mark. The UI is innovative and interesting (though if you don't own an HD TV, it can be hard to see - my buddy had this problem). BioShock 2 was BioShock 1 all over again. Since you've played it, number 2 will still be fun, just not surprising or a new experience.

Bioshock 2 is essentially an expansion, you get a new story and everything else is about the same, but it is done by the 2nd rate team so some of the magic is gone.
Dead Space, well it will be a whole new experience, so I would first go grab that one.

As for gameplay length I think it's about the same.

Dead Space. I love that game, Bioshock 2 just didn't do it for me.

Also Dead Space 2 comes out early next year.
