So, for those of you keeping your eye on the 2011 gaming horizon, you may or may not have heard of
Dead State. An indie zombie apocalypse survival game. I know what some of you must be thinking:

"Oh god, another zombie title? Haven't we had enough of those is the past 5 years"

But be prepared to be braineaten by the new product under the knifes of Doublebear, a joint dev team from the companies of Obsidian and Troika.
But enough of that technical mumobjumbo.

Instead of your typical zombie rush survival hackfest, this game is focused on more RPG elements, and the fact that you must keep yourself fed, and of course, alive turns a whole new set of cards for the zombie fans. Also, you find allies, and enemies out there in the wasteland that is Texas.

Think of, what would happen if Fallout, The Sims and... well some Zombies had a baby and you get yourself Dead State

So strap in folks, it's about to get fleshy.

Sounds nifty. Still waiting for something Stubs-like where instead of surviving the Zombie Apocolpyse, you're job is to make sure the zombies win. While we're at it, how about a shooter where your team has to save the world from an league of giant Army Ants?

It's an interesting idea, but personally, I'm more into Left 4 Dead-style zombie games - frenetic, action-packed and unpredictable.

Sounds a little interesting, but I traditionally avoid zombie games. Something about them just... freaks me out. It must be all the gore and eating people that seems to come with zombies. :(

Er, zombies and wasteland? I'm already sick of so many game environments that look like the love child between a melted brown crayon and the scrapings of a porta-potty. What I wouldn't give for a dire, post-apocalyptic game that was in Santa Monica or the San Fernando Valley ha ha!

In all seroiusness, at least they're going for a different RPG approach rather than another shooter/whorror game.

I like the idea. It looks good on paper, but can they deliver? We'll find out. No sense in arguing whether it'll be any good or not... not until I get more details, that is.

I'm just heaps glad that it is going to be more RPG based then any other zombie game out there.

That wasn't exactly what I was thinking, but pretty damn close. I'm getting so sick of zombies I could just about puke up a zombie.

Oh so it's a zombie rush survival hackfest with stats, character levels, dialogue trees and possibly a moral choice system?

You had me at Texas.
He had me at "Indie Zombie Apocalypse".
You had me at "hello."

The fact that it's a more survival style game has me intrigued. I've long wanted something along those lines, and while this may not be it it sounds like a start.

This could be interesting; the first video game that accurately depicts what would be the most likely coarse of action for people post Z -day, that is find a nice secluded hidey hole and venture out occasionally on missions to obtain supplies and weapons while avoiding the undead, rather than mowing down great crowds of the undead stooges with a motorcycle with 2 chainsaws on the handle bars (though that is the most awesome thing eve conceived of ever).

More holding down a fortified position, dealing with other survivors, the need for supplies and keeping your own people from going beserk.

+Zombies.

After the disappointing Fort Zombie, I would welcome another delve from the indie dev community in to Zombieland....a really realistic RPG-styled approach would be awesome. And yes, you also had me at "Texas." (Next door neighbor state here! Couldn't think of a better place to kickstart the zombie apocalypse...)

Well I've heard a bit about this one: It looks nice

I like the aspect where you can upgrade your safehouse and pick the people you wanna save to join in. Combat was suppose to be alittle more challangeing being these were all normal citizens not soilders. It has a diffent feel to it but at this point All i've heard and seen was news and such so it might be bad but Im inclined to give it a shot.

I'm a bit confused. Troika folded in 2005. Are we saying that the new Studio (Double Bear) that formed is composed of Troika and Obsidian refugees?

EDIT:

Because a quick round of research seems to imply that only the Studio lead is such a refugee. Which means he doesn't have a good track record of being a part of a successful venture. And the company appears to consist of two people at the moment.

That said, their website is fairly amusing.
