So what are the most deadliest or most challenging enemies you have faced in video games?

I think the most challenging enemy I have faced in a game was probably.....The Patriarch from Killing Floor. This guy has a machine gun/missile launcher for an arm!! Also Chrysalids from X-COM: Enemy Unknown. they scare the crap out of me! D:>

Limiting this to just normal enemies (No bosses), the giant depraved ones from Demon's Souls in World 5-2 are some of the most difficult enemies I've faced in any game. They can take down stamina very quickly when you try to block them, they can kill in only 2-3 hits, and they have a lot of health. This was already fairly difficult in 5-1, but in 5-2, they are often fought in the mud where mobility is severely hampered and your character can't roll. There is essentially no way to beat them if you're in the swamp, so finding dry land is essential. The best strategy for taking them down is to know their positions and snipe them from very long range with the bow, slowly whittling down their health. Unfortunately, it's rather difficult to see them from a difference.

Oh, and at one point you have four of them next to each other. From Software are a bunch of sadists.

Giant golems have always been a huge pain to fight in Patapon 3, I bet there's a better way to fight them, but when they can hit the entire screen with a long duration *****-slap I just kept dying. Any zombie with a rocket launcher will usually kill me more than once, regardless of game. Those slabs in Battletoads level 3, the slimes from the same game, everything else in Battletoads other than punchable enemies. Last, but not least, the universal cliff, constantly reminding me important lessons about gravity and how shitty I am at doing things.

The Chrysalids weren't all that challenging in themselves when I played, yet I still agree that they were the worst in that game, simply because they upset my meta-game. While I liked to advance methodically, always with one or two ready to shoot anything appearing as the others advanced, the Chrysalids - loving to kill civilians and turn them into additional enemies - made this strategy not only impossible to do if I wanted to save civilians, but making me struggle against more enemies than initially anticipated.
This forced me to advance less cautiously, endangering my entire team to all enemies on the battlefield.

Shogun 2...Dunderbuss cav, I've said enough.

Chivalry, the really skilled guy playing a "retreat then attack" Man at arms while constantly spamming the 'laugh' emote. Not only does he draw away half a team from the objective as they follow him like lemmings, but his evil laugh will soon echo in your ears as you find yourself dying to him again and again... (I know, I know, you meant enemies, not people playing in multiplayer...still, my point stands.)

The Aliens in "Aliens vs Predator"...gods be damned, but playing as a marine is scary when these things vomit out of some dark hole or circle you while out of sight, only staying a blip on your radar as you again and again try to keep facing them while staring into the darkness, knowing another one might be sneaking up behind you at that very moment... *shudders*
(At least playing as an alien was fun.)

I wonder what's the deadliest enemy as far as total number of players killed is...

I remember there used to be an old "Most Dangerous Creatures" list in World of Warcraft, and Defias Pillager was either number 1 or number 2 with a really staggering amount of kills. Sadly the exact number and the list seems to have vanished off of blizzard's website and into the mists of time... It seems nobody else kept a backup of it either.

I don't know much about Everquest, was there any mob there that had an overwhelming death toll?

The standard Goomba from all the Mario games perhaps? They've certainly been around long enough to accrue a large pile of victims. It would be interesting to see some stats on that!

Covenant Elites from Halo, specificaly their incarnation in Reach. Elites have always been capable enemies. Accurate, fast, resilient and armed with a variety of guns. They also lead the other Covenant around them so taking the Elite out first can force the Grunts and Jackals to flee. An Elite is physicaly stronger than the player so closing in to melee is a big risk.

On legendary, things get real. Elites go from tough enemy to god-damn unstoppable. The harder difficulty makes their shields stronger, their AI more aggresive and their weapon loadout more deadly. No matter what difficulty however I love fighting Elites. Best enemies in any game ever.

When you see a Gold Elite with a sword run at you its a tad hard to stand your ground as your assault rifle runs dry on its shields.

Those goddamn Feral Skeletons (or Skeleton Dogs) in Dark Souls. They're a lot like the giant Depraved Ones from Demon's Souls - taking down your shield in a few hits and dealing far too much damage, while having lots of health. Their 'flurry' attack has killed my characters an absurd number of times.

And on top of all that, you fight them in a light-sucking void with deadly precipices only inches away. To have any hope of seeing them before they see you, you have to give up your shield/weapon to hold the Skull Lantern, your headgear for the Sunlight Maggot, or an attunement slot for Cast Light.

Don't even get me started on the Black Phantom versions that spawn in your world if you're infected by a Gravelord Servant. They're nigh impossible to kill at all, they respawn, and a fairly common bug has them stuck there PERMANENTLY. (Normally you can invade the Gravelord to get rid of them, or log out and wait 10 minutes)

Reapers from Resident Evil 5 always jump to mind when I think of hard enemies.
The only time you can damage them is when they expose their weak points. If you shoot at them and hit the wrong point, they release a gas that makes it hard to see them properly, making the weak point harder to hit.
Doesn't sound so bad until you add in that as soon as they reach you it's instant death. They're not really hard, but the amount of time it took me to just hold out until the time ended in the mines Mercenaries level because of these asshats will forever place them amongst my hardest enemies.

That thing can put you in an infinite loop. Maxed out evasion on everyone > everyone is confused > hard reset and lose an hour.

I'm gonna say Fuzzies from Mario, mostly because I'm really good at narrowly clipping them, losing my yoshsi/power-up and dying as a result.

I also find the vampire ***** from DMC3 to be very annoying as she's rther tough to avoid.

The heavy troopers in Killzone 2 on high difficulties are very challenging too...

Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts 1.

the Chrysalids in X-COM were the only enemy that made me and my men become little girls and run for their dear lives after the first time i encountered them, them being the only melee enemy that posed the biggest threat also losing a couple skilled soldiers to those bastards does not help one bit.

also Vaal Oversoul is a beginers trap in Path of Exile.

Mind Flayers from pretty much any of the Infinity Engine D&D games. I hate those bastards. They're not very strong physically, but their melee attack involves sucking our your brain (ie draining your INT score) and can kill you in three or four hits. Plus, if you don't kill them really quickly, they'll dominate or immobilise half your party and force them to fight each other rather than the Mind Flayer itself. And it gets worse! That attack is psionic, not magical, so it's really difficult to defend against.

Honestly, I'd rather fight Beholders.

Are we talking about bosses or just regular enemies?

For bosses I'd say Mysterious Figure from Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. Without the right abilities that let you survive any attack at 1 HP, all of his hits are OHKO (he even has two skills that bypass those safeguards); he can block your attacks to heal himself; can rewind time slightly if hit by a critical to undo the damage and get in position to hit you; can use multiple attacks at the same time, making it seriously hard to dodge; can clone himself (with all the clones having all of his attacks)... The list goes on.

For regular enemies, yeah, I'd go with the Great Malboro from FFX.

Probably Dragons in a modded Skyrim with Requiem, Deadly Dragons and Dragon Combat Overhaul.

All of it's breath attacks kill you in one hit. Landing and taking off causes massive knockdowns, usually followed by a one-hit-kill fireball. Melee attacks kill you in one to two hits if you aren't blocking and they have a high chance of doing their eat you kill-move if you have even get below 75% HP.

On top of that they have shit-tons of HP and high resistance to poisons.

Let's just say that if you're below lvl 30 or so you're probably best off running away. Might be able to take them on sooner if you focus exclusively on combat skills.

As much as I love using bad breath, I hate when the Malboro uses bad breath...on me...Hate those things...

I've got one...

Fokka

From the Great Palace of Zelda II: Adventures of Link. These bastards are basically like the also-difficult Iron Knuckles but they are different in their abilities to jump and, fire projectiles.

I would make the argument that player characters are deadlier than many in-game enemies. Not just players who intentionally kill their on-screen avatars or, multiplayer death match scenarios either. If you've played Devil May Cry than you know what I mean: without player input, Dante isn't bound by the rules of space, time or, physics but once a player begins that game Dante is significantly slower and less effective.

The Feral Skeletons from Dark Souls, definitely. They have ridiculous hitboxes, ridiculous poisebreak, and deal ridiculous damage. To say nothing of the red phantoms! And they exist in a location that permanently reduces your lock distance and basically mandates a light source, and their health is massive.

Also, Bonewheel Skeletons. Not only do they often come in groups, if you dodge them too quickly they get a ridiculous turning circle in order to hit you.

For a second I almost said feral giant skeletons too, but on my second playthough I ran a strength build and all I had to do was get just close enough to see them, and then do a jumping attack and with my large club that would always one shot them, as long as I was careful they never even got an attack off. I'd say the red phantom chained prisoners instead, for anyone who's never been gravelorded in Oolicile, its hell. Can you say massive damage and knockback? In the cavern of the abyss you can't see them coming, and you don't have nearly enough room to fight them effectively, and to top it all off if you try and run further into the level you'll have one in front and one in back, along with scores of humanity sprites advancing inexorably towards you. That multihit charging attack they do? If they break your poise with that you're toast unless you're running a vitality gouge build. I suppose if I'm saying anything here it's that gravelords are the deadliest enemy in Dark Souls, which by extension makes them a good candidate for deadliest enemy in anything. It's too bad they're so woefully underutilized.

I would like a proper definition here. Do we mean enemies who are an actual challenge of gameplay or really annoying fuckers that we hate with a blind passion? I need that to be clarified.

I still HATE Grace & Glory in Bayonetta. They work together in perfect harmony to make your life as hellish as possible. Then they make it 2 Grace and 1 Glory later on in the harder modes... Fuck.

Y'know I always thought G&G were this divine couple who were battle lovers. Then they throw everything into doubt by making it a threeway. You could make a good soap out of that I think...
