Way too many of their decisions are just nonsense. You can't fake the will to live or even the will to kill. Until the great Coliseum opens up again we shall never know.

It is based on science. They take the weapons of the warriors they pit against each other, and test them out in a lab. They then run simulated fights with the data. The show is friggin' sweet. Just finished watching Viking vs. Samurai.

I love what I've seen so far. Kinda surprised by the first episode, Apache vs. Gladiator

Apache wins?! Wow. I thought for sure the Gladiator would have taken that match.
I was also amused by the ONE kill in 1000 battles that the Gladiator had with the sling. That would have been a funny one to watch

The Viking vs. Samurai one was really cool, too. Surprised it ended as close as it did.

Now we wait for the Spartan vs. Ninja battle next week. My pick is the Spartan, even though I love the Ninja. I just don't think the stealth of a Ninja can defeat the sheer fighting prowess of a Spartan.

Haven't seen it but it sounds exactly like "animal face-off", where they study animal characteristics and have a simulated battle, stuff like gorrila vs leopard, sperm whale vs giant squid etc, it's pretty good. I'd like to see the warrior one but if they ever have a battle involving ninjas and the ninja loses, I will torch their homes. Sorry I love ninjas.

Its a very entertaining show, ok so the premises is a little flawed, if you count the number of fatalities the latest wars have stacked the bodycounts pretty high, so lets assume we have "deadliest warrior: in hand to hand combat with 4 weapons; long, mid and shortrange + one special favourite weapon" (but i guess the producers of the show thought that were a bit long name for the show).

They havent explained the surrondings of the coming fights: terrain, time of day, who is the attacker and who is the defender, when is this supposed to take place ? 500AD 1000AD or at the hight of the contestants civilisation ? Is gunpowder allowed? (while the Vikings,Indians and Gladiators had to live without it, the Samurai used it for quite some time).
...well i could go on, but in the end; a very entertaining show!

I haven't seen the show.

At any rate, "fanboyism" aside, ninjas win a 1 on 1, pirates would most likely win an all out "war". Because that's what they did. Ninjas were trained to be spies: assassinate silently, poison, steal. They weren't magic fighters that could take on hoards alone and they certainly had nothing to do with what you see in Naruto. But they were extensively trained to take on ANYONE and even uneven odds. So 1 on 1, or 1 on 2-3, ninjas probably would win.

Pirates, on the other hand, as seemingly disorganized as they were, they all knew their place in an all out war, that's what they did. Ninjas weren't trained to fight open wars. Off course they knew their way around a sword and bow, and they'd still kick your ass in any terrain or scenario, but all out open wars weren't their field, they were more individualized and lacked the structural organization the pirates had. The pirates, while less individually "developed", were best prepared to fight as a group.

But the fight itself is ridiculous as you're comparing 2 completely different units with 2 completely different purposes... Would be like pitching the CIA secret OPs vs the Marines.

Ninja are over-rated oriental peasants, particularly with their mythical variations. Actually, I think that ninja are more interesting when you don't have them fighting dragons with mystical powers, and just have them doing assassinations properly in much the same way as a European assassin would have done at the same period.
true but logically a ninja would win since they would kill the target while they are asleep and if confronted, their agility, balance and probably poisoned weapons should allow them to kill quickly in a 1 on 1 fight.

anyway the simulation shall reveal all, I'm pretty sure it doesn't air in australia so someone will have to let me know how it turns out.

It's a pretty cool show, just watched it on youtube. While they've been correct in both assesments so far, it doesn't seem like they're really going for a fair portrayal of both parties, or that they're really trying to come up with conclusive results for real, they're doing it more for show.

Then again, it's tv, and it's entertainment, so I can understand the willingness to make that decision. It IS still pretty fun, but I wouldn't mind having a word or two with their coreographers, or joining the staff myself :p

i think the show is pretty neat to watch, not sure how accurate it is but i do think they at least approach it in the correct way

i don't disagree with the samurai thing, i honestly don't think it should have been as close but really it does show brains over braun
