So for ages now I've been hearing people saying that the upcoming Deadpool movie was going to be rated PG-13. Of course, frustration, rage, worry, and so forth came up.

Then on April 1st, this happened.

So... the movie is actually going to be rated R now? Is this true? Because if so, it sounds promising again.

EDIT: For those looking at it and saying "Erm, April Fool's joke?" The way the video was presented, it seemed like the April Fool's joke was that the movie was going to be PG-13, and in actuality it will be rated R. As far as I can tell, anyway.

Bolded the most relevant part. With the dubious release date of this announcement and the fact that Rated R=less money I kinda doubt it will be anything but pg-13.

It's been to days since the most annoying holiday of the year has passed. I thought I was still safe... I was wrong.

I really want to believe this, I really do.But unless I get solid proof that isn't dated from the 1st, I'm still assuming it is PG-13

I'm pretty sure it the april fools joke was that it would be PG-13. then again I could be wrong, but that seems to be the way the video was set up.

Anybody who was really expecting an R rating was just kidding themselves. Of course they're not going to lock out kids from a Deadpool movie. This isn't Watchmen, their target demographic is millenials because millenials are the ones who have had the most exposure to Deadpool. Barring comic book readers in general of course, but comic book readers are never their main target demographics with these superhero movies. They try not to tick them off, but they aren't trying to cater to them the most.

That bit there is the only reason I brought it up here. Were it not for that I wouldn't have mentioned it.

Ryan Reynolds pulled an April Fools joke by announcing it would be PG-13, then later on it was truly confirmed as being rated R by Deadpool and by Ryan Reynolds. This movie will be rated R, 100% guaranteed. That is why I can't wait to see it!

It's been two days since April Fools, and many news sites are still saying it's officially R without the studio telling them it's not.

So maybe I'm being a gullible idiot, but I'm gonna say that it's rated R, and that the joke was that it was gonna be rated PG-13. Otherwise, that would've been a rather cruel joke.

Also, it seemed pretty obvious from that interview, especially when they talked about being family friendly, sorta making fun of the whole "PG-13 will sell better" thing.

That is exactly what I thought...

BUT

...everyone is basically saying the PG-13 thing was the April Fool's prank and the R thing is the real deal.

Honestly, I thought there wasn't a snowballs chance in hell that the release (or at least the theater) would be anything but PG-13 but if they've gone this long letting people think it's going to be R, I can't imagine they would now come out and say "SURPRISE! WASN'T THAT FUNNY!?!?" The 18+ comic fans is a niche audience but they are still an audience that will be interested and taking the joke this far would do nothing but piss off a chunk of your audience for no real reason.

I don't wish for my hopes to get raised so high only for them to be dashed but I can't help but get excited for a R Deadpool.

I'd have thought the point in the video after the gag where reynolds says "april fools - deadpool will ofcourse be rated R" was apparent enough. I guess not though considering the thread and mixed reactions an all.

Honestly could you even make a deadpool movie that wasn't rated R, considering the hyper-violence, crude humor, foul language and pretty much every other aspect of the character.

I love this video because it works as the perfect catch-22... and this thread is completely emphasizing on that fact... Is it R? Is it PG-13? I thought the answer was perfectly clear from that video...

That's basically how I thought that video was suppose to say in the first place... and using April Fool's as the perfect platform to announce it... Besides, like a R-rating would do anything to stop Deadpool from getting families, let alone kids, to watch his movie...

Most of the time the PG-13 movies people get all riled up over seems like a silly quibble. But for Deadpool there is a massive disservice in making it PG-13, so if it's not R it's gonna suck. The merc with an attitude is also psychotic, immortal, immoral, and does a whole lot of over the top killing. Hell an R Rating if handled poorly wouldn't do Deadpool justice, the comic is borderline NC-17 Material.

don't know enough about the yank rating system and don't care to check because apparently the rating system there sucks.
I would assume a rating of MA (15+) for an australian release and anything short of that would not do deadpool justice.

Actually our rating system is fairly simple and run by the MPAA, rather than being a government institution. That said R is a suggested 17+ plus and it's actually getting harder to achieve an R rating as just violence and minor swearing no longer cover it.

F*** you, Slater.
lol

I was hearing a lot of bad press about Deadpool and feeling a little bit had like I wouldn't want to see it. But then this came out and now I'm getting a bit gassed up to see it again.
I read a little bit of the comics but only mostly thought the comic (in the few panels I mostly know) were pretty awesome.
I'm not super into Deadpool but would enjoy watching a movie about the dude.

Don't expect this to be particularly good either way so I doubt the rating will have much bearing on the whole thing.
And quite obviously, April fools is April fools is April fools... hope you understand that math.
