a friend of mine is having trouble with acid reflux, she says her throat hurts alot and she can usually taste blood, particularly in the mornings, apparently her doctors aren't being much help,

if any escapees or anyone they know has had similar troubles then how did they deal with it?

If that's true, then I'd tell her to get a new doctor. If it's that bad, OTC stuff probably won't help otherwise I'd recommend trying some of those first. But if it's as bad as she says and the doctors aren't being much help, time to get a second opinion.

If she can taste blood, then yeah, definitely get a new doctor. In the mean time, though, she may want to try a ranitidine-containing over-the-counter medication like Zantac.

Prilosec has helped me in the past, though it's still helpful to keep a few bottles of Tums handy. Also, i dunno about your friend, but for me, my acid reflux is typically triggered by stress. Is your friend worried about anything right now (aside from her acid reflux)?

Also, some dietary changes may be needed. While there are certain things that are almost universal (like tomato sauces/marinara), there are others that vary wildly. She might want to pay close attention to what she eats and when.

Tastes blood? Ouch. Poor woman. I was going to suggest a spot of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water as that always helps me but I dunno if that would help now...

I found that Gaviscon (despite its spooge-like consistency) works really well.
It's a viscous suspension, and available OTC in the UK and Ireland.

The liquids work FAR better than the tablets, IMO.
