Dealing with obnoxious roommates?

How do I deal with these assholes?

EDIT: Forgot to mention one of them bought a machete at Wal Mart and hacked our lampshade to pieces with it because, you know, psychotic douchebag.

Wow... that's intolerable. The major reason I refuse to live in the dorms when I go to university, you never know who you'll end up with. >.<

These guys obviously don't care about being considerate or even respectful. I'd go to whoever is in charge, and tell them exactly what you told us. Although they may suggest 'talking' to your roommates first. Still, keep pushing and explaining that you can't live with them, and that it's completely unfair to have to pay to live in such a difficult environment. Explain to them that you're hardly able to study, or sleep. Hopefully they'll actually do something. If not, perhaps you've got a friend you can stay with when you really need a break?

My flat mate's pretty damn decent. In fact, I'm likely the 'slob', though that's mostly just letting dirty dishes pile up a bit high. I keep my dirty clothes located in my room and I try to keep the noise down, with the stated understanding that if we ever bug the other, we're well within our rights to knock on the door and ask them to turn it down. Hasn't happened yet, walls appear to be pretty thick and we're both polite enough to try to keep it down on our own anyway.

He *is* a vegan though, so, you know, insane as they come. Also he likes bananas. Freak.

Oh right, your problem. Well first you should probably try having words with them. Explain your problems as coherently as possible and away from any sharp objects. If that doesn't work, complain to any authority-type people to sort them out. If there aren't any people like that, kill them. If you're averse to murder, simply spend as much time away from possible. Only gotta put up with them for another 2/3rds of the year.

For now, keep your head down and hope for the best (I'm assuming you've already tried reasoning with them... right?). Be the first in line for a new room assignment, stay out of your room as much as possible, and try to bear with it. If it gets too bad, talk to the RA (assuming you have one that actually gives a ****). From how you've described them, I doubt they'll last the year. I've seen guys like that come and go, more often than not behind the register at Wendys. If you've got good friends nearby who have the space, sleep in their room when your dorm mates get out of control (from my experience as long as you're discreet no one will care).

Don't let those idiots turn you off from random dorming though. Sometimes you'll find great roommates, other times some that at least stay out of your way. When you're finally allowed to live off campus though, gather some friends to pitch in for an apartment and never look back.

Aww, man, I feel your pain. For the first half of the semester I was with a bunch of shrill, shrieking harpies that always had weird guy over (weird=creepy, and had to be escorted away by the police), and would come home in the middle of the night drunk to have three hour long cat fights. (I have no problems with alcohol, I just like my sleep)

I'm not really experienced with room mates like yours, however, as I seem to have some traits in common. (no friends and never leave the apartment, although I'm generally quite and try not to bother people)

All I can say is that you should try to move, if possible. Try to see if you can switch apartments after the end of the semester.

At this point, obviously words aren't going to cut it, so you can either request to be moved somewhere else(lol yeah right, they already have too many), or go on the offensive.

Either divide and conquer(turn them against each other), or the scorched earth response(do whatever you can whenever to cause as much torment as possible without breaking any actual laws or rules). When all three of you are begging to be separated to the powers that be, it will initially end in a "grow up", but as long as you're persistent it will escalate properly and they will eventually cave and call it an "extreme circumstance" and split the three of you up, likely moving you elsewhere rather than one of them.

Here in Britain you live in a house/flat with maybe 3-8 people all with your own room and just share a kitchen and a couple of bathrooms. job done.

First, I'd put in an application to switch rooms.

Then I'd speak with someone, a landlord some sorts, about playing guitars in the morning and screaming at each other and hope for the best.

Then, I'd stock up on Super Soakers.

My Uni's halls were 6 people to a corridor (12 to a floor, 3 floors, 6 buildings for my college), shared kitchen and individual en-suite showers/toilets for each person. I can't imagine how much it would've sucked rooming with someone for my first year. I think I probably would've murdered someone.

Move out or report them if you can. Deep down, some people just can't be reasoned with, and you have to let go of them. I understand being considerate and patient with people, I understand greatly in fact. But everyone has a line, and when it becomes too much of a problem for you and they can't seem to shape it, it's time to find somewhere more stable to go to. You're in college, you shouldn't have to deal with that craziness when you are trying to pass tests and do assignments, let alone normal things like gaming, sleeping or basic living. Talk to whoever is in charge, and make some changes happen.

Of course, if you do have a friend that will let you sleep in their room occasionally, you may want to covertly move in with them. (if there's enough space to drag your mattress into their space, that is.) Its a bit of an inconvenience, yes, but in college, do what you can to be able to take care of yourself.
If that means sleeping on the floor and spending most of your time elsewhere (like the library) until you can get your roomate situation in order, so be it.

I'm assuming from what you say about these people, there's little chance the offensive route will work (e.g. "hiding" the laundry basket down the corridor, having a chat with them, etc)

One of the two things I would try is to move in with someone else. If you've got friends on the course, see how they feel if you moved in with them. With three of you, there's a possibility of also relocating the bed, as long as there's no wardens about
Other course of action would be to pester the hell out of whoever controls the dorms. Pester them several times if need be (but be polite). Make it clear you are NOT enjoying it at all, and would really like to move out. You could also combine the above routes by saying you want to move into "x" room with "soandso", if you want to make your moving out official.
